I'll go ahead and give RS the benefit of the doubt although I get terrible PTSD symptoms when I hear him talk because his speech patterns are similar to Morris and the things he says he's going to do are almost exactly what Morris preached he was going to do in the beginning of his tenure as HC. I hope the difference is that RS can and will practice what he preaches. Time will tell.

Well, if it makes you feel better Silverfield has done more against similar competition at a school with fewer resources than Chaggie ever did at SMU.

he's nothing like morris, he's actually coached with success. morris didn't know his head from his asshole and still talked down to people.

The only real flag with Silverfield is he took an already decent Memphis program that had some success with a succession of stepping stone coaches and managed to not drive it off a cliff. Nothing especially great about what he did...he just didn't trash the lambo. At Arkansas he's inherited a program that has been in it's death spiral for more than a decade with brief intervals of what some would call success (Citrus bowl win, and a couple Liberties here and there) so mainly nobody knows if the guy can "build" and I'm not sure there's a guy out there short of Urban Meyer...someone with enough clout to come in and get the panties to drop and the money flowing. Money is a major factor...Money and Competence is the real key. 

Even at Arkansas where the bar has traditionally been to "make it to a bowl" or in the past a NYD game...something like that was about all anyone hoped for with any realistic possibility. I fear our administration still treats it like that's the big end goal. 

Fans want playoff or it's a fail. Who can blame us...that's the metric we have before us now...you make the playoff or you are trash nobody cares about the fucking bowl games.

A buddy of mine and I were talking last night. He's a Mississippi State grad that now lives in Knoxville but grew up in Bentonville (weird I know). He asked what the vibe of the program was.

He grew up here in the Nutt and Petrino eras so he knows Arkansas as a competitive program and he was also used to homers up here always predicting 9-10 wins.

I told him that for the first time in a long while, I don't think anyone honestly expects any more than 3-4 wins max. With the SEC going to a 9-game schedule, it's obviously more difficult now.

There's always a chance that we sneak up on someone or a team has its worst day of the year against us, but other than North Alabama and Tulsa we are going to be underdogs in every game and the likelihood of us only winning 3 games is probably around 70-80 percent.

I'd love to be wrong though.

Okay, I'm getting excited.  And I also have decided I'm going to be positive and chose to believe Silverfield is going to be the coach to break us out of the rut that we have been in for 14 years. 

Last, someone let the ground crew know that watering in the middle of the day is the worst time to water.  The wind and sun make it a very inefficient time to water.

No matter how the season ends up, the practice facilities' sprinkler system has my vote for MVP.

This doesn't seem like it could be accurate, but I'm pretty sure it is.  Unless Wikipedia has incorrect information, HDN has the best winning percentage of any Razorback football coach since Hatfield in 1984-1989.  Yes, even better than Petrino.  He has the 4th highest in the past 100 years.

Compared to what came after Petrino 1.0, he wasn't bad.  He was what we thought he was at the time...average.

It's worth repeating that the SEC, particularly the teams on our schedule at the time, was weaker than what most of his successors faced. 

Alabama was mediocre to bad for his entire tenure.  Everyone else got to face Saban.

LSU was bad for his first two years, then became a beast.

Auburn was better than they are now.

Miss State was awful post 1999.

Ole Miss was between mediocre and terrible.

South Carolina was South Carolina, and always on our schedule.

Tennessee was good, and Nutt got them seven out of ten years.

No Aggy, No Texas, No Oklahoma. 

I do think he'd have done better against Missouri after letting them punk us due to underestimating them a time or two.

I looked it up once, can't remember the exact numbers, but Nutt faced an average of like 3.5 ranked (at the time) teams per year.  Petrino faced around 4.  Bert averaged like 6 or 7.
