Say what you want about Baz, but he has a pretty good understanding of the game. I get the impression he thinks we'll be lucky to win another game this year.

The Carter guy on YouTube ripped us in his breakdown as well.

Yeah, I figured Rhodes was making a business decision.

If so, move on from him.

DJ's film break down that I watched about 30 minutes of was filled with plays with guys running wide open, play designs that looked to be missing obvious check downs, dough boy lineman that couldn't get out of their own way, odd plays where we are running the ball and the entire line lunges upward and slides over with shoulder pads way too high (DJ saying against better competition those guys are getting their shit packed). We had so many weird technique issues. He correctly pointed out on a couple checks out of plays our star WR was pouting and wasn't blocking for teammates (This is fucking game 1). KJ is laser locking on #6 even throwing into double coverage a couple times with other guys open. That's not the guy we saw last season...Petrino would have this guy throwing for 4 bills against these fucking guys.

Needless to say the tape was much worse than at first glance. This offense better get it's shit together or it'll be a long season. It already will be but you know. I feel like we are a better team than what was shown the other day but I also didn't see much to convince me we would break 2 wins. The line we had last year was way better and it sucked. We went from Corey Robinson and Carmona to whatever the fuck we have now. A couple of those guys looked like they took a couple fatty's off the Magnet Cove line.

So if all this is true, how long do we hang on to this guy?  There are no excuses these days.  Cignetti went 11-2 in his first year after Indiana had gone 3-9 the year before.

Obviously I wouldn't expect us to go 11-2 but if a guy can't improve at all to maybe 5 or 6 wins, then be won't do it next year either when all of the players are brand new again.

The one take away from the game I had is that we just don't have THAT DUDE. There's no DMAC, Felix, Matt Jones, Mallet, Tyler Wilson, Joe Adams...Cobbs and on and on. Russell I think is a good situational RB, Smith also more of a situational guy...don't know that either is the type that's going to carry the load. KJ looked regressed...possibly a product of learning a new offense. What's his name? Marshall had some moments but he's exactly what they said he is...inconsistent. One play he's Terrell Owens...the next play he's just some punk that taking a play off. Those guys are a dime a dozen. It's worse now days because we're paying these fuckers and the coaches feel like they gotta play the guys they paid over the guys that are probably out there out working them. We'll see what kind of coach RS is in the coming weeks. On offense for my money our best talents are the TEs...Platt or Pratt whatever I think has a chance to be a pro. The other kid looked pretty good too. With this bunch of daisies blocking I figure we'll see a lot of two TE sets.

Good Lord this Sully and Bazz interview is depressing.

I've never heard Sully so negative.

LOL ... they were making fun of HY coming in there and giving a game ball.  And seriously what a dumbass.  You think maybe the coach wanted to chew some ass?  Keep your dumbass out of the locker room, HY.

BleedinRed

Come on guys.  A team makes its greatest improvement between game 1 and game 2.  It takes game 1 for a coach to know what the problems are and then by game 2 he has it fixed.

One last thought on the start to the season.  I think I would rather come out and look like shit in game one than come out and look great.  At least now, when Utah and Georgia push our shit in, we won't have come into game two with all this optimism based on being awesome in game one.  Anything positive that happens from here on out will just be gravy on top of the shit sandwich.

Watching the Sully/Baz podcast and the DJ podcast was interesting.  One thing stood out.  Baz said the TEs were terrible and didn't block worth a shit.  DJ said the TEs were really good and he was impressed with their blocking.  Uh, which is it?

I would think that DJ knows more about tight end play than Bazzell.

I think I'd trust DJ (a former TE) to know a quality TE more than Baz (a former LB) or Sully.

Don't disagree.  Just interesting that two football guys can watch film and come away with polar opposite opinions on what they see.

Sully posted this in the comments:

"According to Pro Football Focus ( one metric),  Platt and Adcock. were ranked 19th and 20th in run blocking out of 21 Hogs.  Lockwood  was the third rated blocker"
Things of that nature

DJ Williams career in the NFL was cut short because he couldn't block for shit. So I think he knows a thing or two about shitty blocking.

He knew how to block, he just didn't have the size to do it well at that level.

Show-Me Hog

Clint Stoerner's evaluation. He didn't say which two things for the OL. Maybe it's "not run blocking" and "not pass blocking."
