Quote from: vegashog on Oct 04, 2026, 04:26 PMcurrently on a 0-16 streak as a p4 coach. no offers after the most coaches changes ever in any one offseason. no one knows how he would have done if he got this job, with these resources, with this talent. no one. his best seasons were after cornrows recruits were long gone. he's in over his head right now, finding out the difference between the aac and the sec, just like the russian who a lot on here wanted hired. go read an auburn board and they are saying the same things you're seeing here. both might be massive fails or able to get at least decent, but neither is getting fired after one year.Y
Petrino is washed up. Still if you told me my choice was RS or Petrino I'm picking Petrino. That other guy being talked about...the dc for Alabama will probably be yet another coach with some Arkansas ties that ends up kicking our ass for a decade.

The only way we were getting a solid staff was a fuck ton of money, commitment, and someone like a James Franklin.

Again for everyone paying attention...Arkansas' issues go beyond the AD...it's how the entire program is organized that seems to be the thing really scaring off coaches. Basketball is easily done to throw money at it and get results. Football is way more money and way more moving parts and takes the types of people we literally don't have not at the top or bottom. Anyone remotely competent that most of everyone wants is a fucking old man. It's not realistic. We have to have executive level people...who actually want to win football games. If it takes changing state laws then go get it.

i would have loved to had petrino as the oc. imo, this jicky hurry up shit's time has passed. especially with a qb who lacks in making reads. why hurry a guy like that, take a few seconds for him to process. might not make any difference , who knows.

i'm not advocating for silverfield, just saying that based on the four guys who were hired from the aac, his resume was as good as any of the others with the exception of maybe sumrall who got humbles by the dork.

in their last three seasons, silverfield was 29-8, golesh 23-15, morris 22-16, and sumrall 20-8 (two seasons at tulane). on paper i can see the CURRENT admin thinking that was pretty good.

I yearn for the return of QBs under center, Tight End/H-Back being lead blockers, and efficient, methodical offensive drives instead of dink and dunk and long bombs with no chance of being caught.

Putting Marshall at QB and running the Wildcat would be a better option.

I wouldn't be shocked if our administration evaluated this hire solely on previous w/l record and not much else. They probably thought they made the best hire of the bunch. Time will tell I reckon, but it may be a short evaluation period.

I don't mean for this to sound racist in the least, but maybe it is time to stop trying to find lightning in a bottle in a black QB. That experiment succeeds rarely.

The most athletic kid on the field in high school ain't gonna cut it in college. Your QB has to have a brain to run a modern college playbook. Race has nothing to do with it other than the best athlete on the field in high school.

If all that was done was to compare win/loss records of the candidates then the current admin proves to be incompetent.

Had RS ever turned around a failing program? Did he know what it takes to win in the SEC? Was he able to win at a program that did not spend the most money in the conference? What has he accomplished that showed he could win at a program with the disadvantages that Arkansas currently has?

I am amazed at the number of people in college athletics that makes millions that are unfit for the job whether AD or head coach.

Quote from: FNG on Oct 04, 2026, 01:59 PMAt his first press conference last year RS promised to improve the "controllables", i.e., things like hustle, tackling, ball security/turnovers and penalties. So far, compared to last year's stats, he seems not to have delivered on that promise.

Through 5 games:

2025 8 turnovers lost (-2 margin)
2026 7 turnovers lost (-3 margin)

2025 31 penalties (270 yds)
2026 32 penalties (260 yds)

Hustle and tackling are somewhat subjective but turnovers and penalties are not. Also, gifting A&M an eventual TD due to lining up 12 men attempting to block a FG is coaching malpractice.
You're not wrong, but to be completely fair, most of those turnovers are giant WTF throws from our idiot QB.  On the other hand, I think we've seen more hustle and largely less penalties.  Yes, it's still on Silverfilled, but I genuinely blame Cramsey for most of it.  His O scheme does NOT put our moron in the best position for success.

Quote from: BleedinRed on Oct 04, 2026, 02:13 PMWTF does this a mean?

https://thenilstandard.com/football/teams

We have one of the top 25 NIL budgets (allegedly) in the country.

We absolutely are paying guys enough to NOT be this fucking bad.

Silverfield gets zero sympathy.  This team hasn't gotten better in any way shape or form since he took over.  And these are mostly all his guys.  Fuck him.

Oh I'm not saying he has no accountability.  I'm saying I don't think we can fairly judge his coaching ability.  As I said in my statement, he does have a chance to prove to us that he's actually serious and not Chad 2.0 by making necessary changes like shit canning Cramsey as soon as possible or taking over and building our run game.  Ultimately, he's the HC, it falls on him.  I'm not saying he's a good coach.  I think like most that come to the SEC from a mid tier, he's a fish out of water... in over his head.  That doesn't mean he CAN'T be good, or that he isn't a "good" coach.  I just don't think we can give that particular bit a fair assessment right now due to the surrounding factors.  Essentially, he can make moves to prove himself, but if he doesn't, well then, he's a useless turd and can't hack it here.

I say he's been handicapped because he has.  We may be in the top 25 NIL but we're dead last in the SEC.  He spent most all of his time fund raising only to be told he couldn't use that money til next year.  Given the last decade plus of an absolute shit show with Football, it is beyond obvious that we have serious systemic problems from the BOT on down... and I'd bet dollars to donuts that there are a ton of things going on in the background setting us up for failure.

Quote from: Barton Fink on Oct 04, 2026, 02:28 PMYou're making my point. Make the program uncompetitive and you are gonna attract an unproven coach. If we had better talent last year we could have at least been mediocre. I get that is not what we want but it's better than what we have. You and others claimed firing SP would lead to more NIL and a better coach. That did not happen. We have gotten worse.

No.  What I argued was that we knew definitively that Pittman could not get the job done regardless of funding.  He proved that by underachieving when our resources were competitive in 2022 and 2023.  When you know that, it is time to give someone else a try.  The next guy may be better, may be worse, or more of same.  Unless your goal is status quo you never keep a proven loser as your coach.  Maybe you get lightning in a bottle, maybe you get shit in a jar.  It appears we have the latter.  If we're going to throw up our hands and accept being bottom tier without trying, then why put any money into it at all that could go to other sports where we can compete?  More importantly from your "money is all that matters" viewpoint, donors were not going to light more money on fire by handing it to a guy who couldn't win on the field and wouldn't lift a finger to sell his program off of it.

I would argue that this year's team would be at least this bad as not worse under Pittman.  You can say "but Petrino..." and I agree to a point, but Petrino without full control is not the version of Petrino that slits opponents throats and gargles their blood.  We saw that last year...the lack of discipline neutered his advantage.  The play was clearly to hire Petrino and let him rebuild it in his image.

Quote from: Trigger7672 on Oct 04, 2026, 02:24 PMPetrino is the best coach we've had in the last 40 years easily, but he also came in the same season we had the best in state recruiting class of all time. The teams he had in 2010 and 2011 were absolutely stacked with talent especially at the skill positions.

I'd argue that without Petrino to develop them those guys never would have scratched the surface of their potential.  Had we retained Nutt, Greg Childs would have either been a WR at Texas Tech or a DE here.  Joe Adams would have been a DB at USC.  Tyler Wilson would have been a Golden Shower at TU.  Jarius probably would have been a star in Leach's offense at TT.  Only Wright out of all those guys put together even a journeyman's NFL career, so it's not like BP was running out a peak Alabama roster, yet he was going toe-to-toe with the world.

This is an excellent point.  This state hasn't produced so much talent in one or two years since that time (and yes, I count Mallet-- he lived in Arkansas most of his life, just went to Texas High).   :><:

Drake Lindsey is good in the Big 10, but he is no Mallet.  And we sure haven't seen a Joe Adam's since then (although Sategna is playing well).

I don't like Cramsey's offense either, but that isn't really why we can't move the ball.  We can't move the ball because we don't block anybody. And we have only one receiver. On defense we have Bogle and one or two others who can tackle, but just as many who seem to try hard to avoid contact.
