We're staring at our 4th zero win SEC record in the last 8 years. We are by far the worst program in the SEC. We have the worst in-state talent pool. No recent history. The lowest NIL in the conference. We are asking someone to take a job where the main recruiting tool is less than 9 of his 12 opponents. Considering our recent history, we are probably going to have to overpay to get to guys to come here. We can either sit on our hands and hope we catch lightning in a bottle or we can change.

Can we change our in-state talent, nope. Recent history, nope. Surely changing ADs will automatically get us more wins right? Nope. Obviously changing coaches in this program is like rolling loaded dice. The one thing that gives you the best (and quickest) chance of improving is getting better players. It also makes the job more attractive for the next guy you hire. It HAS to change or these results will likely continue. Maybe a new AD can get us on the right track but the end game is to make the University of Arkansas football program an attractive job. Considering HY is still here, getting a new AD in and getting things changed is far away. Right now we are the WORST P4 job in the country.

Quote from: jdcatty on Oct 05, 2026, 08:34 AMThis is an excellent point.  This state hasn't produced so much talent in one or two years since that time (and yes, I count Mallet-- he lived in Arkansas most of his life, just went to Texas High).   :><:

Drake Lindsey is good in the Big 10, but he is no Mallet.  And we sure haven't seen a Joe Adam's since then (although Sategna is playing well).

I don't like Cramsey's offense either, but that isn't really why we can't move the ball.  We can't move the ball because we don't block anybody. And we have only one receiver. On defense we have Bogle and one or two others who can tackle, but just as many who seem to try hard to avoid contact.

Treylon Burks.

Do other states have the same generally shitty level of high school football coaching and fundamentals that we do, or does that just go hand in hand with our talent?  We seem to get a lot of players that look like they've never footballed before... in between the occasional great.

Arkansas is the only program in the country that faces ALL the hurdles during every race.  Everyone else has a mostly clear lane to the finish line.

Nothing is going to change...especially funding...with HY in charge.  He is probably the biggest obstacle to fixing our fundraising issues.

Arkansas should try to lure Keith Carter away from Ole Miss and back to his home state. He has a grudge against the UofA but could probably swallow that grudge for the right amount of money. He is currently making approximately a quarter million less than HY in total compensation and has shown that he is not afraid to be aggressive in pushing boundaries when it comes to seeking advantages over the competition.

I have hired a ton of people over the years and every single time I've heard Silverfield speak I wonder how he ever won the interview. He has never said anything or come across as someone that impressed me at all.

We are going to have to do a lot of things differently to compete.  Firing HY would be the first signal not only to the fanbase but potential coaches and everyone else.  Does it guarantee anything?  No, but Indiana shows it can be done.  Programs with a lot less history and resources have become more than respectable.  Kansas State is a historical example and Vandy is a recent example. We can do it.

I do think that regardless of anything else, HY has proved to be a very bad evaluator of coaching talent.

2027 class of instate players has zero 4*, and that's both recruiting services. that's not to say some of them won't be good players but they will need at least a couple of years to get there.

be interesting to see if the congress can pass the bill any time soon and what effect the 5 for 5, one transfer, will have on the portal. right now the portal has pretty much taken priority over hs recruits, so if that changes the state of arkansas hs football is going to have to get it's shit together if it can.

Yes... football was fun to watch back then. Now I like the passing attack stuff mixed in with that downhill attitude which is why I really loved Petrino Prime era

Andy Reid is the best modern example of an offense that offers both worlds which is an evolution of the Bill Walsh west coast

The old USC teams under Pete Carroll were also a thing of beauty

Fine. Then we shouldn't expect anything better than what we've seen the last two years for the next 2-3 years. We haven't even fired HY yet. Getting in a new AD and having him build the relationships and establishing a plan is going to take time. Mind you this is the program that hired HY after canning that shit head Long. We aren't good at hiring ADs eithrr.

This is the correct answer. Carter would be the man.

Yeah, dude does not come across as a "people leader".  Equipment manager maybe.

I expect nothing out of football.  Less than nothing until a new AD is in place.

Not something he can help much but yeah, silverfield has hardly any charisma. Football coaches don't have to be Mr personalities but have to have some gravitas

I agree but also believe in such a case would only result in getting Keith Carter a huge fucking raise to remain at Ole Miss. He goes down as one of the all time fails of Arkansas lore. Year later they did it again with the guy that's now on the Lakers
