word was he has trouble hanging onto the ball after contact in practice. did he not have two fumbles against a&m?

i mean if all you're going to do is throw deep to the guy whenever he's on the field, the opposing dc are not idiots.

Or run the jet sweep to him the only time he's on the field.

So let me see if have this right.

- We have an offensive line that can't block.
- We have backs who are slow and can't yet YAC.
- We have receivers who can't get open.
- We have a deep threat who can't catch.
- We have TEs (the healthy ones) who aren't pass catchers.
- We have a defensive line who can't rush the passer.
- We have a QB who can't do read progressions, holds the ball too long, and can't check out of plays.
- We have a career OL coach whose area of specialty sucks.

KJ doesn't have time to let the deep routes develop. He has 2 men in his face almost immediately.

Who the fuck do we even get if we fire Pittman. I don't foresee him lasting an entire season at this point
Yep. I'm not trying to be a dick about it. It could have lived. It didn't. Not by my choice. -Elvis

I talked to a former college football player this am who shall go nameless and got his take. He has a brother on the UA staff and claimed that he and his brother are in agreement on the following...

He said the line isn't good but isn't overly the problem. Said KJ is dumb as shit and can't go thru progressions or anticipate what the defense is doing within the scope of the ENOS offense. The ball should be coming out much quicker...said the center should be helping the QB but he isn't seeing that either. In other words the center should be calling out for sight adjustments and that's not happening or not enough. Basically Limmer is not a center.

Nothing earth shattering but I tend to agree at least in part. I raised the issue of slow developing plays and he said the QB is basically being asked to process information really quickly and dude isnt getting it

It's really hard to call a deep ball when your OL can't block for shit.

Think man, think.

Except when we threw deep on Saturday we dropped one td pass and scored on another one.

I'm so sick of hearing the "who are we going to hire?" argument that comes up whenever we have to go coach hunting.

Who does anybody hire? In all of football, there are maybe 5 sure-fire homerun head coaching hires. The rest is a crapshoot, dependent on the coach, staff, talent, schedule, and a hundred other dominos that fall at random.

Who are we going to hire? Not Nick Saban, circa 2007. We might end up hiring a one-year wonder like Heupel at Tennessee, or a perpetually mediocre nobody like Will Muschamp was at South Carolina, or get an overachieving surprise like Dabo Sweeny was at Clemson.

We're going to hire somebody. It's not going to be a guaranteed homerun, but NIL and a little luck can make an iffy hire have early success that can snowball beyond anyone's expectations.

That's coaching.  Pitt knew what we had and he hired Enos.  That tells me that Pittman doesn't really understand offense either.

That's the asses of his OL in his face.

Our TEs can't catch or block.

At some point KJ has to go to the bench and we start playing next years talent to see what we got.

JFB did it to Ferguson to start Scott Bull.

They all go back to wanting to play "real" football with, as Burt called it, a "goddamn fullback" and multiple tight ends.  We can't do that at Arkansas.  Hell, we couldn't do it relative to other programs in the 1960s and 70s when we were a top 5-10 program every year.  Even then we were early adopters of the forward pass and other newfangled tricks that the powerhouses thought were gimmicky.  We have to zig when the rest of the world zags, because we're always going to be undersized and outmanned.

Art Briles offense was designed to overcome limitations in size with speed in space.  Kendal didn't always do a great job executing it, but when it works it's the great equalizer that lets schools like Baylor, Texas Tech and Arkansas compete with the likes of OU, Texas, and Alabama.  We need to always be running some form of the spread, at least until there is some innovation where tight formations and power football become the unicorn that jabs the major programs in the ass.

Yep. We need a HC who knows how to win with lesser talent. We don't need to be looking to hire the OC or DC (or OL coach) from powerhouse schools like Alabama or Georgia. We don't have the horses to run what they run. We need to look at schools that overachieve and win by out-scheming and out-hustling.

Mike Leach probably would have done well here, maybe Nutt-levels of success, which in hindsight, in the much harder SEC of the 2010s would have been pretty good.

This isn't shocking.

KJ can make some "holy shit!" plays, but he can also be the most unaware, empty-headed QB I've ever seen.

Diving for the goal line from nearly 5 yards out, never stretching for a 1st down, running out of bounds with a few more potential yards in front of him, holding the ball for an eternity, outright not seeing wide open receivers, the list goes on. He's a good athlete, but he's not a very good quarterback.

However, in his defense, he's a square peg in a round hole in this offense, and that's the fault of Enos and Sam. They have a squad full of guys tailor made for the Baylor system and they're running overly complex pro style, read heavy bullshit. Pittman and Enos committed the cardinal sin of forcing personnel to adart into their system as opposed to tailoring their system around the personnel they had. Live in the world that is as opposed to the one you think ought to be.

I've given Briles my fair share of shit for some of his cutesy playcalling over the years, but he deserves a ton of credit for running a simplistic system and getting a lot out of KJ.

Yes it is and I really hoped Enos would bring out a side of KJ we hadnt seen (for the better) but instead it's only shown us that we have a shit ton of weaknesses in this more conventional pro style offense.

You look at Alabama this season and they basically came into the season expecting to do the same pro style with Milroe only they figured out the guy sucks at that part of the game but gives them the best chance to win. I'm guessing Saban told their OC to dream up some running plays for the QB and they'll hang their hat on that.

We aren't hanging out hat on anything right now.

So now the Twitters are all pumped up over Pittman saying this. If I am the opposition I would probably just say "and that is all you ever fucking will be."
