But I'll play this out.  The University has made a shit ton.  Fine.  I accept that.

Being in The SEC hasn't done shit for Arkansas fans though.

For fans of other sports, it certainly has. It's just that the expense of the football program.

This, all the money people are of the age that they are still blinded by the success of JFB in the 60s.

It is also why we give coaches stupid extensions for beating teasip. (Nutt, Burt).

We are our own worst enemy.

Not unless you count giving us reason to find other things to do on Saturdays in the fall.

It has been great and successful for every sport on campus but football.

Correct. We've seen an uptick in performance in damn near every other sport. I believe the money from the SEC has helped tremendously in that regard. I wasn't saying thats all that matters but to some (that are in charge), it is probably just as important.

The only thing that matters is being members of the country club. It doesn't bother them that we shoot 85 on the reg.

Yep. My expectations have never been higher for basketball and baseball. I expect to win every game and I get pissed when we lose. I didn't get upset at all last night. Was happy I cashed a ticket on the under and went to bed. It's not "lil' old Arkysaw" bullshit either. It's reading the room and realizing we will never be truly elite in CFB due to numerous disadvantages. Doesn't mean we can't be competitive though.
The Lord wants you to put your foot on their balls and believe in it. 'Cuz that's what wins football games. Not jumping offsides like a bunch of wimps and faggots. I don't care what those pinkos over in Russia say. You want to be a loser? You go live in Russia. I'm a winner. I'm an American.

since joining the sec we have more seccg appearances than both mississippi schools, vandy, one fewer than tennessee (all charter members), missouri, south carolina and a&m. don't see any of their fans bases whine about what conference they are in. there's more to the lack of recent success than what league we're in.

primarily that.

Say what you want, but I don't see us playing very smart, or very hard.  This started with Johnelle and continues through today.

Nutt, mediocre as he was, got us to play hard. Hell, sometimes we were out of control we went at it so hard. Petrino, with all his problems, had us playing terrific ball.

We chose not to replace Bobby for a year, the team quit on a regular basis, then hired a guy who continued to train us to quit when tired, then a putz that was a disgrace, then a career coordinator.

Our culture is broken.  We hire poor coaches, below average coaches, then wonder why we cant dig out of this hole.

Exactly.  And our fanbase is broken too.  They make excuses for this shit instead of demanding better.

This is why the bar is set at mediocre. "Sam is a good man, the kids played hard, we were just a couple of plays away, blah blah blah."
"That's embarrassing.  Looks like Josh Duggar when his parents asked him to babysit."

For $7 mil I'll put a webcam in front of my shitter so I can answer fan questions while I drop the Longhorns off in College Station.

That or they're black pilled and just say, "Arkansas has inherent limitations and will never be consistently good in football.

The football program has far more advantages than what Wilson Matthews and Frank Broyles had.  We have used the advantages of SEC membership and money very well in every sport but football.  The issues in football are complex but not difficult to solve if... you have the right people.  We haven't for quite a while.

The game has changed.  A 12 team playoff should make us hopeful as a 4 team was stacked against programs like ours.  Deion shows what a program can do to flip from a doormat to a compelling program overnight; Arkansas has more advantages than CU.

For those whining we need to move you're crazy.  The SEC will remain the premier conference for revenue and fans like ours.  The Big 12 is diluting their lesser moneys amongst fewer players and liklely this 23 team isn't anymore competitive there or the MAC or the ACC than it is currently.

We need a dynamic coach that can recruit at every segment, drive hype for the program, hire the best coordinators and assistants, and demand stamina, smarts and accountability of the staff and players.  If we get that this program can be competitive every year:

Son of Spam

Get guys that want to be here and want to get better. The portal, to me, is teaching kids to quit and go somewhere else if they don't get playing time instead of working hard and getting better. And we are left with what's left and no backup. People always want an up and comer who usually is a flash in the pan. Give me someone with a winning resume for several years. We seem to be a place where someone can come in, get a huge raise for winning one year, then suck and either be fired or retire a rich man.
Well, shit...

egregious

Our problem in football is there are 2 teams in our division where we cannot ever compete with their very best teams.  We can beat LSU to about 3/4s of their best team and Alabama maybe a third.  To do either we have to have one of our better teams.  That should improve when Saban quits.  They'll flounder awhile hiring relatively shittier coaches.  We don't seem to be able to beat A&M.  When Texas and OU come in we may have 4 or 5 teams we play regularly that we can beat something less than half the time.  If we have 5 teams on our schedule regularly that we can beat less than half the time that means we will beat all of them in one year less than once every thirty two years.  That is just math.

Until we do something to prove otherwise my first paragraph is just flat true.  We may go year to year having the illusion that we have a chance more than we do but when we look back each decade we'll be saying, "Um, no we didn't."

When is the last time we beat an SEC team with fewer than 2 other losses (for the year) besides us?  I don't know but it does not happen often.  A 3-loss SEC team is not one of the best ones.

In the other sports we can compete with anybody when we are good, we don't have to have our BEST EVER team to do so.

We need to find a young up and coming coach who doesn't know any better who can drag us up.  We need to do that to be ready when Saban does quit.  Kelly is probably going to have LSU pass through some beatable years for us so the opportunity is coming because both teams we usually can't beat will be going through a lull.
Splash 11! drop ABE track, too confusing

the portal isn't hurting teams like arkansas. it's what is giving a semblance of parity back to college football.

having a staff that misses in a key area like the o-line is what's hurting.

Agree with all of this. We will never again be in that elite tier of top 10-15 teams but there's no reason we can't be top 25 and a solid mid-tier SEC team. At the moment we can't beat fucking Missouri. Reality is a bitch.

We played Texas 8-4 three years in a row before they joined.  We beat the dog shit out of them two hears and had an epic come from behind in year three.  We had a good coach and they didn't.  We've had dog shit for coach since.  That's it.  That's the sole reason.  We can beat those fags often enough if we have a coach.

I made a crack today, in reply to someone being ok with punting from the Ole Miss 38, that such a strategy was successful. In 1974.

The response I got back, "We went 6-4-1 in 1974. I would be ok with that."
