I'm not sure I've seen KJ stare down receivers as much as he did in this one. Even when the line gave him more than 2 seconds, you could tell he was not going through his progressions. He has one option or check down. And he has to be the worst qb to have at the end of a half/game when you need to score. I know you want your qb to be calm in those situations, but damn. He's like a catatonic back there. No urgency whatsoever.

Yeah there's a difference between being "calm under fire" and "apathetic."

KJ definitely exudes the latter.

Something has changed. 

2020 Missouri...led us to a go-ahead drive and two point conversion late.
2021 Ole Miss...KJ led the team down to what could have been the tying or winning score with little time left.
2021 Miss State...led winning drive with 2:00 remaining.

I don't know if it was expectations, ego, or coaching (I suspect the latter), but KJ used to be calm and skilled in close/late situations.

KJ has always been a player who had games where he didn't show up early and had to work himself into playing well.  And the until he got it straight, the offense would be ass.  Under Briles, unless injured he usually got it going.  This year, except for the first game and a few flashes he has never not looked like ass.

I think it's painfully obvious that KB running the offense (however flawed he may be) and Odom giving Sam HC/running the program advice was the reason for our resurrection from the Chad debacle.

Now they're both gone and Sam is utterly lost as a HC. Meanwhile, Odom is 6-1 at UNLV.

Arkansas fans need to accept a reality that doesn't seem to have set in. It's going to be borderline impossible to improve dramatically on the offensive line in the coming years barring a few lucky breaks in the transfer portal.

The state simply doesn't have enough money to fully fund an SEC level roster across the board in an NIL world, so there will always be a deficiency in some area on the team. The area where that most likely will occur is along the offensive line.

That's a stupid article.  We have more money than Louisiana, Mississippi or half the other SEC states.  And we only have one team to support.  We might lack the commitment to fund it, but we won't really know that until we hire a fucking coach who is committed to the program, winning at a high level, and who beats the bushes for NIL money like other coaches do. 

Get some success going, and people might be surprised how much money we have.  I doubt people would be talking like that if we had a Petrino like coach and had a couple ten win seasons lately.

This is true, but it is hard seeing how to get there from here given who we have making decisions. The state picks its leaders in the only way that's actually worse than DEI - nepotism.

Nobody wants to believe that KJ is dumber than shit but he is and at the risk of falling for old backup QB grass is greener I'd love to have seen Criswell get some snaps. KJ hasn't had any help from his offensive line and a major part of that is the center is awful. In years past the center was certainly helping KJ make the reads he needs to make pre-snap and I suspect that's not been the case this season. The last time we were this bad at the center position was Chad's first year and that year was an 0-8 campaign too.

The honeymoon is over and this hee haw shucks "act" about not knowing what he's doing...well people are coming around the to the idea that he really doesn't know what the fuck he's doing. Hell I like Sam...wasn't overly impressed when he was here under Bert. I liked Bert and still kinda do...it's a joy to watch a Bert team when it's clicking the problem is it's rarely does. I'd love to see Sam pull it out and somehow resurrect the program (again) but we've seen this movie too many times and know how it ends.

The idea of retiring Pittman and somehow pulling in Gary Patterson does move the needle I must admit. I just don't know that hiring an old guy looking for a pay day with minimal expectations is the right route to take. But the young and hungry types are too boom or bust. I feel like we needed experience just as i did when Pittman was hired...but by experience I do think we need to hire a coach that knows how to captain the whole ship. It's no small thing to organize a program at the scale of an SEC program in order to compete with the schools of which nearly all can or willing to out spend and certainly out athlete us.

I think when he was given specific instructions, he was functional (and at times exciting). I also theorize they convinced him to come back with the pitch of Enos will raise your stock by showing off your skills in a pro style offense. Problem is, he is not that level of quarterback.

Patterson is old, already wealthy, and doesn't want to deal with transfer portal and NIL. He's great if you want to hire him as a consultant to scheme up defenses every week like Texas did. I think we'll see a lot of established coaches either retire or move on to the NFL soon due to the new landscape. We need someone young and hungry who understands and embraces all that shit, preferably an offensive coach. Every coaching hire is a roll of the dice but maybe even moreso for us next time around.

We don't need an old guy whining about nil and the portal unless it's Saban.  Otherwise young aggressive and smart is what we need who is involved.  Sam said he doesn't go to the defensive rooms much and won't now.  He admitted he hadn't been that involved with the o.  His let the coaches coach approach is an excuse for lazy.
