For $7 mil I'll put a webcam in front of my shitter so I can answer fan questions while I drop the Longhorns off in College Station.

Ferret Top still believes the lawsuit bs

I'm one of those who was told that Petrino was not hireable and yes I passed it on. However there was something that was left out. Something HY and SP kept to themselves. Petrino wasn't fired for having an affair and lying about it. He was fired for hiring his mistress over more qualified candidates opening the university up for potential lawsuits.

Therefore rehiring him was only an issue if he was hired back in a job where he made hires. As offensive coordinator he hires no one. He can and already has recommended job candidates but Pittman makes the hires.

So am I stupid for not considering this during that time when Pittman was looking for a new OC? If so I have a lot of company because I don't recall a single person, media or otherwise, that mentioned this loophole before Petrino was hired as OC.

Delusional as those who think Petrino disgraced the University with his actions.

If I remember correctly, there was a loophole, but this sure as hell wasn't it.

The Whyte Boar

What's his story going to be when Petrino is hired as head coach?

Lawsuits never were a serious threat and any statutes of limitations have long since run.

It was a stupid theory from the beginning.  I wish someone would ask him how firing Petrinio eliminated the threat of a lawsuit.  Anyone who had standing to sue would sue the institution, not Petrino.  Him being there or not being there is not relevant to their case.

The Whyte Boar

Not to mention it was a $50k a year job that she had for about three months.  So, what $15 to $20 in damages tops? If every single applicant had made noise about suing and every single ine of them had settled, Petrino could have paid it all with a month's salary.

It was always so dumb.

Irwin can say what he wants but the simple truth of the matter is Long saw an opportunity to trash his rock star coach that he couldn't stand instead of protect him in order to curry favor from his peers which by then had already been bouncing his name around for the CFP chair. It's not a coincidence that after all that we were all about #Integrity while getting skullfricked. The entire program was sold out in order to stroke the right ego.

I personally believe it didn't stop at Long. I think some back room deals where made because certain TV execs, agent(s), and probably Arthur Blank didn't care for Petrino. I think people forget what a star Petrino/Louisville was for ESPN on Thursday nights/midweek games. It was comparatively speaking cheap entertainment for ESPN. Pull that away and you had a void and ESPN holding the bag. Ultimately as we all know ESPN turned it around with Herbstreet and the gang doing Thursdays and made them very popular. For a good while Thursday Night Football was a pretty big deal. It may still be considered a good time slot for college ball. Petrino made some enemies by leaving Louisville and made more when he bolted ATL.

Petrino is some polarizing figure that I cannot fathom why he was torched when other coaches bounced around about as much if not more. Other coaches clearly turned a blind eye to things and it took a bread crumb trail 3 schools long to finally catch them (Meyer). It's laughable how much shit would be uncovered about college football head coaches after Petrino's removal from Arkansas and yet they went after Petrino hard. Real hard.
"I got fired for using free speech" yea imagine getting killed over it

He's been asked numerous times, and does what a midwit (or below) always does when confronted with information that highlights how full of shit they are...he didn't respond.

If I remember right there were something like thirty people who were considered qualified applicants.  That's just based on resume, and no other factors.  It didn't take into account mitigating factors like the fact that at least one of the candidates was a recent graduate and player for a school we face regularly (LSU) which could easily disqualify him.  For all we know some of the qualified applicants may have had other disqualifying attributes besides that.  And from what we've seen over time, the average tenure of a person in that role was 1-2 years tops.

So assume we get an asshole judge, and he decides that every "qualified" applicant is to be made whole with two years of back pay from the job they didn't get.  That's $3MM, or a little less than one year of BMFP's salary as head coach.  We lost more than that in program value within two years of his firing, and a hell of a lot more than that over the twelve years since.  And had we followed my suggestion, that a condition of BP remaining employed would be that he assume liability for any lawsuits, it wouldn't have cost the university a penny even in this worst case.

I firmly believe that BP would have accepted a suspension of 4-6 games without pay and assumption of liability to keep his job.  Kermit the Frog let the media drive his decision, and killed the football program in the process.

Hard to argue that what could have occurred with failing to fire would have been any worse than what did happen after his firing.

At the very least.

With the benefit of hindsight we know that failing to fire BP was the absolute right call.

However, sources tell me that Chamblee will not be retiring from football, but rather transferring to a new program.

So he doesn't love that helmet I guess.

Should we be pissed off that we lost Chamblee?  Is it Pittmans fault or did BP not want him?  Those are the only two options.

Someone named Jake Bates who they said played at Arkansas as a "kickoff specialist" just kicked a 64 yard FG to win a game for Michigan's USFL team. They said he never attempted a FG in college.

I don't remember him.

He actually made it twice in a row because they iced him once.
