Recruiting is super important and super deflating because there is zero point getting excited about dudes that will flip four times before they get on campus and 3 more times at least after they get on campus.

For this staff though...they need to put in a good showing in the recruiting rankings to keep their jobs. They need a bowl game and they need recruiting results. A tall order on both accounts.

He addressed whether it's a coach's job or that of the athletics director to corral the donors. Regardless of personal responsibility, he's doing his part while including his wife in the efforts also.

"Oh, I think it's a little bit of everybody's, to be honest with you," Pittman said. "We hosted an event (in May) down at Jamie and I's lake house in Hot Springs. We had a lot of people valuable to the program there and we're going to have another one in July."

Regarding NIL, Pittman is as clueless at that aspect as he is being a head coach...

He said folks signed on. Most need to be asked, including Wal-Mart it seems.

"I don't know what they've done, but they're obviously a huge resource," Pittman said. "We'd like to tap into that and if we have, I don't know."

This shucks hat in hand shit isn't going to fly, donors want a coach that can sell them on the vision same as always but now that vision includes outright a funding arm for players. All Pittman sells people on is that he's really only there for a paycheck and the sweet party barge write-offs.

Calipari only took the job because of his relationship with Tyson and assurances that they fittin to make it rain. But Calipari brings credibility and can really work a room. You have to have someone that can energize the base. Pittman is not that kind of salesman and Petrino isn't either really. Both would rather just be coaches.

The old archetype Arkansas coach is someone akin to Pittman or Nutt...someone that "gets it". The Hee Haw guy. Well there's nothing to get now. You either have a mover and shaker that can make it happen to get recruits or they are off to somewhere that can make it happen. There is no loyalty to the home state school. 

Being a good technical coach is secondary to having someone that's more of a CFO/CEO. Games are now more than ever before won and lost in those donor meetings. The poor Arkansuck mentality will always keep this program down

Traditional recruiting and relationships are gone. It's all about the bag now.

On that basis, what does it matter. Get the best technical coach that happens to a massive asshole. Have another guy to sweet talk the donors. Offer the semi pro student athlete the most money.
