Basically he sounded unmotivated about the up coming game and season. It was worrisome that some positions do not have a clear starter, like the kicker.

Interesting there will be no media access to fall practices.

No captains named due to the portal. There will be GameDay captains for each game, and maybe not the same. Captains might be named for a bowl game.

Not having a clear starter this early doesn't bother me. Pretty sure media has had little to no access for many years. Those days are over. No captains so already a leadership void. College football is so cooked.

The SEC has granted a waiver allowing recruits to attend the game Thursday night.  Sam should have rejected it.  There is no advantage to bro going recruits to a stadium that's shittier than 90% of high school stadiums.  They will learn about pisstroughs and a broken clock.

if he was uninspired about anything, to me it was having to open in little rock. despite his words at the start of the presser, the 'lots of discussion' remark after the state game say where he really feels about playing there.

He is aware that this season is do-or-die and that whatever he did last year didn't work.

He definitely already knows who will start (barring injury this week) but I think it's smart to keep the players motivated and competing by not announcing just yet.

Same thing goes for Captains. Not named Captain for the upcoming game? Work harder, be a better leader, and earn Captain for the next one.

Letting the press stick their noses under the tent during the season has no upside and a lot of downside. The press is nobody's friend and Arkansas's press in particular has no power anymore to help the team.

If Arkansas has any ghost of a chance to become bowl eligible this season it will be because they circled the wagons, adopted an us-against-the-world attitude, and played as hard as they could because they wanted to prove the world wrong and each player was determined not to be the one to let the team down. This seems to be the culture that the coaching staff is trying to foster.

Unfortunately, guts and determination is no substitution for talent and depth so I'm still thinking 4-8.

Missouri State bought their way out of the contract.  They're moving to FBS for some inexplicable reason, and wanted us to pay more since they were no longer a lower level team.  We correctly told them to piss off.

I'm sure the fact that their coach may not have wanted to take an ass whipping from his father-in-law may have also been a contributing factor.

If you don't like how it's run, please get in touch with your local legislator or your Governor. I'm certain they will cough up some money. They are actively trying to spend down the existing surplus.

You are right about the ownership of the facility. But please god don't anybody ever encourage the legislature to spend a lot of money to fix it.  All that will do is increase the pressure to play games in LR.

For some reason I thought this was our last year at WMS, so imagine my horror to check this thread and see that we have to do it again next year too.  At the very least we're not wasting SEC "home" games there but... can we just stop doing anything there anymore?

I think we'll be done with wms. It makes zero sense for the university to sign another contract after this one runs out.
