No need to be a smart ass. You keep trying until you find one.  No one said it was easy.

You sound just like all the "who will we get that's better than Nutt" people back in the early 2000s.

Quote from: The Whyte Boar on Sep 18, 2024, 01:55 PMSorry, that's just loser thinking.  If Kiffin was the guy you wanted, you don't walk off in a snit.  You stay in the bidding war as long as possible. As for Drinkwitz...well, maybe, but he actually had head coaching experience.  Sam had none.

It's not loser thinking to realize that beating your head against a lead pipe repeatedly isn't going to get you a positive result.

I will say that the smart play would've been to keep jacking the price up to make a rival pay more rather than opting out so soon, but we were never getting Kiffin.  They were always getting the last look, and they were willing to go into debt if necessary to make it happen.

Just trying to inject a little humor here.  But read your own posts and tell me where you said it isn't easy.  I thought you might have inside information that Warren Stephens is friends with Kirby Smart.  😊
Apparently retarded member of the "fucking old people" crowd as defined by Swahili Steve.

Why is it on me to state the obvious?  If it was easy we would have never fallen off the face of the earth about 1990.

You can't really say that because HY got butthurt and quit.  We would have been better off than we are now if we had had to pay Kiffin $10 million a year.

It's almost to the point that an SEC program can't overpay a coach that can deliver the kind of success Kiffin has delivered at Ole Miss.  He would be cheap at $15 million a year.  Meanwhile, Sam would be too expensive for half of what he is getting.

I can say it because it's what happened.  Sexton was playing us.  That's a fact.

I agree on your economic analysis of it.  But there is no way the rest of the university would have approved paying $9-$10 million for the FAU coach when Saban was only bringing in $7MM, even if Hunter had been willing to do it.

Feel free to hang it around Hunter's neck though.  I'm done defending him after this latest bullshit.  As long as Calipari isn't attached to him, send his ass packing as far as I'm concerned.

Fuck NIL. If you want big money go pro. The rest can fuck off and play and get a degree.

I approve of the sentiment, but if you're interested in watching a winning team in any college sport you're going to be sorely disappointed.

The market will eventually sort things out.

but this will never happen. i think you and others fail to see nil as the anti-trust issue it was/is. it extends all the way down to club sports that the ncaa licenses. athletes cannot be treated any different than, well, any other person. and paying them won't eliminate it either. everyone has the right to hawk something.

all very true. since kiffin is being talked about, here's what he had to say last year:

"I said it yesterday but without that, we're not going anywhere. I don't care how great of assistant coaches you hire, who your head coach is, any of that. You don't have this, like you see in professional sports where you don't have resources, you don't win. That's why I took a lot of heat a couple of years ago when I said NIL and getting a collective done right and funded properly is way more important than anything else nowadays. It is. It's more important than the size of the weight rooms, the size of stadiums, and how many Heisman trophies you have. I don't think I'm a wizard, but if you didn't see that coming – that 17, 18-year-olds are going to make decisions once salaries were included – that was going to be the number one factor then you missed the boat on that. Now we're seeing it and everyone is seeing it and talking about it. I've been honest for a couple of years and to see our fans and donors respond like that is awesome because I'm just telling you that we wouldn't go anywhere and you would not be enjoying going to games if this wasn't in place."

Can you help me out on tomorrow's lottery numbers? I may never have to work again.

It's amazing how bad the instate talent is now. Is Harris our only meaningful contributor from Arkansas?

I'm sorry Elvis......for all of it.

I didn't want John L Smith, Bret Bielema, Chad Morris, or Sam Pittman.

Put that string of coaches anywhere and you'd have the same results.

And our top two coaches don't really understand or don't want to have anything to do with it, respectively.

Kiffin and Yurachek are both right about NIL. Arkansas will never compete for championships without the fans supporting the collective like they do at Ole Miss.

I don't see anyone arguing that they're wrong. What I do see is HY and others trying to make an argument that if our fans ponied up more for NIL right now that we'd be better..right now. As if throwing more money at a below .500 coach in year 5 is going to translate to more wins..right now.

I think Hunters been a great AD for us. LIGHTYEARS better than Long, imo. But he completely missed the boat on NIL, and so did Sam. Anyone remember the  announcement re: the head of the NIL program, and it was a wet behind the ears grad? I knew then Hunter and team didn't have the pulse on the new game.

But NOW, oh it's so super duper important, and arguably one of the reasons we're not winning more?

No, sorry Hunter. Both things are true. You shit the bed when NIL went live, and you're trying to play catch-up during the sunsetting days of our current coach.

Make a great hire, and the NIL will flow. If he wins, the NIL will continue flowing, and fans will support the collective "like they do at Ole Miss."

Just look at the way Calipari has embraced it and goes out looking tor it and asking for it.  He know and accepts that it is a big part of his job.  Need a football coach that does the same.

Whatever happened with Saracen? We get any of that bag?

The thing with Cal is he's been doing this shit for a very long time he's just saying the quiet part out loud now. He's a natural communicator and salesman so that helps tremendously. Really banks hard on those relationships especially when it's backed by generous donations.

Sam Pittman was asked to sell a vision of Arkansas that's entirely different. An us against the world tiny Arkansuck mentality that was grifted on by the Nutt clan for a decade that many wished for yet again and instead we got a shitty version of that.

Since he was hired the game has changed dramatically even though in 2019/2020 whatever it was already headed in that direction.

Combine a bad economy with a poor product on the field and a coach giving thin skinned answers and this is what you get. Sam Pittman is really only capable of 8 or 9 win seasons IF we dump a ton of NIL for him to piss away. I think that's mostly the mental math people have worked out.

"I got fired for using free speech" yea imagine getting killed over it
