Been saying that about Odom for awhile. We just happen to have one of the few coaches that he'd be an upgrade over.

Honestly I think everyone up there is so scared of going back to Chad levels of suck that we're almost fine with barely making it to a Toilet Bowl game every other year.

You still need football to be a huge money maker for this program so you almost have to make a move here especially if we get smoked against Texas. If Texas can make a coaches career at Arkansas it can break it too...

At face value I think most people felt like 6-6 was the bare minimum to keep his job but the optics of getting smoked at home repeatedly this season may be enough to send GVN packing (before he makes win #6 this season)

I think the Morris era was secretly the best thing to ever happen to our admin, media and boosters.

It's like how Disney used Covid as a giant reset button to silently kill all the shit in the parks they'd been wanting to sunset for years (free transportation, free fast pass, free magic bands, free evening hours, etc), our admin used the Morris era as a giant reset of expectations.

Now we're just happy not to be home in December and just grateful for whatever shit bowl we crawl into.

It was a long process to get here, but 2017-2019 helped accelerate it.

Quote from: Borenutz on Nov 03, 2024, 08:53 PMDo you really think they wouldn't have 3-4 losses in the SEC ? They haven't had a terrible SOS but it's not like playing even our schedule so far. They've had a good season, but I think they would get exposed by LSU,Ole Miss, ATM, Bama etc.
but that's the point. they're not in the sec. there's no doubt that the acc and b12 aren't near the sec overall. but they don't have to be.

there's an actual playoff now and despite being inferior conferences, the winner of both are virtually guaranteed at least the 4th seed and a bye. why come to this conference and face the teams you mentioned when you can beat lesser teams and still make the playoffs? is 'playing the best' really all that relevant now?

Very true and why I wouldn't discount the ACC and Big 12 as shit conferences with unimportant programs. The SEC may get four teams in but it will never feel the same when our teams will have 1 or 2 losses to everyone else being undefeated or 1 loss.

For Lashlee the only real pull to Ark would if indeed he loved that helmet and wanted to come back and build a winner. Probably a huge pay raise as well.

Unfortunately that is backfiring for Disney. The more they raise prices, the more it is alienating people from going. According to WDW Pro and Valient Renegade, attendance is down and most people are waiting for Epic Universe to open at Universal.

I agree that this level of mediocrity and attendance is what the PTB want, but it will not last long.

The problem they have is how to get another Good Ol'boy or fine Christian Man that is enthusiastic to raise hopes up,that is not too expensive, but will win just enough.
The dildo of consequence, rarely arrives lubed.

Quote from: vegashog on Nov 03, 2024, 06:19 PMthey still get a chance to play for the conference championship and if they win they go to the playoffs.

they went to the acc with the understanding about the tv money. it wasn't any kind of disrespect. that's why they raised like $200 million in a week.

the challenge thing is overrated imo. if he can play for a p4 conference championship, why the hell would he leave?

The SMU boosters are already footing the bill to cover the missed revenue from the ACC contract for the next ten years.  I don't know if that will limit how much they can or are willing to spend on NIL, but it could be a problem down the road for them.

It's worth our time to at least gauge Lashlee's interest.  Given the fact that he's from Springdale/Shiloh, he may motivate some of the wealthy donors in that area to up their NIL contributions.

Playoff access at SMU is a valid point, but getting there from the SEC probably gives you a better chance to actually make some noise versus going home in round one.

Sure it will feel the same.  All that will matter who wins in the end.

In fact, I predict that within a few years people will start griping about these teams from lesser conferences getting in the playoffs and getting drubbed early most years.  And before too long, you're going to see an NFL style system with about 65 teams playing only teams in that 65.  There will still be conferences, but the smaller schools will be left out.

smu's road to the playoffs is thru bc, virginia, and cal. then probably miami in the championship game. arkansas's road is to hopefully finish .500 in the conference. you tell me which is more attractive.

imo, who cares how you get there. you get a bye so it's not a first round loss anyway. getting beat in the semi or dragging yourself to memphis, which is going to catch recruits and portal guys attention?

smu doesn't release salary figures but word is lashlee already makes as much as pittman and if he does get to the playoffs, he's damn sure getting a healthy bump.

The Whyte Boar

He won't get to the playoffs at SMU.  The flip side is that an SEC team could have two maybe even three losses in some years and get there.  SMU is going to have to be perfect.

This is probably as good a chance as he will ever get.  Miami is living a charmed life right now and is very beatable.  They're 9-0 but without that horseshoe stuck up their ass (and a little SEC-style protection from the refs) they'd likely be 6-3.

I suspect Miami is good enough to beat SMU pretty badly.

They're capable of it, but they haven't exactly kicked the shit out of most of their similar opponents.

For all this talk about Arkansas not being able to compete is there any doubt that Petrino's last two teams would be undefeated right now or with one loss at most?  We absolutely can compete at the highest level in this sort of environment.  Petrino had to play prime Nick Saban, Les Miles before his mental disease ruined him, and Scam Newton.  A similar type coach could absolutely win at Arkansas right now.  Hell, that second year team of his that went 8-5 would be right in the mix this year.

I just get tired of all the pussies who are willing to settle for this fat old assistant coach because they think we can't do better.  We can, but it takes coaching skill, dedication, and a willingness to outwork the opposition.

I would take Petrino back, but I'm pretty sure that 2024 Petrino is a lot more comfortable with losing than 2011 Petrino.  He'd still be a huge upgrade, but the edge is probably dulled a little bit.

Son of Spam

I have said for a while now that if we want to remain either middle of the pack or lower (without a Petrino type coach) stay in the SEC. If we want to win championships, move to another conference. We have to decide if a 6 win season is good enough. Most, along with myself, don't think so. I seriously think we are where we are simply for the payouts at the end of the season. We are in the best conference out there, but we don't play nearly well enough to compete for the gold ring. We need to shitcan Pittman and try to find another Petrino.
Well, shit...

I'd love to see them throw a boatload of money at Cignetti, but why would he leave Indiana for the Indiana of the SEC?

You guys are looking at it wrong.  The SEC is where you want to be.  Take a Petrino team and this schedule this year.  We have Tennessee, Ole Miss, LSU, and Texas in our schedule ALL at home.  Those teams are all ranked and good, but none of them overpowering in the way of a 2010s Saban team.  With those Petrino teams and the games being at home we would absolutely be favored in every single one of those games.  Go 3-1 in those games and take care of business elsewhere, and you're in the playoff talk.

The college landscape has changed.  We can absolutely compete and the SEC gives a coach the best chance at making the playoffs.

And The Holy Tebow while SEC refs were blatantly rigging games against us.  It's fun to see Joe Adams on the 4th and 5 podcast but it makes me sad to imagine a world in which he catches that first pass in the Sugar Bowl.

It's a tougher schedule but you're playing for one of 3-5 playoff spots rather than having to win your league to get one.

it's headed for a super conference anyway. arkansas would be foolish to leave the sec.

and the university is hardly alone in welcoming a big pay day.
