Quote from: Barton Fink on Nov 21, 2024, 09:00 AMDubinion is a Jr and has less carries than Russell this year. Yet he's fumbled 3 tines and Russell has not fumbled. Does that mean Russell has been coached more not to fumble more in half a season that Dubinion in 2.5, no. Some player's are just more prone to fumbling that others.

Saying we don't coach ball protection enough is PURE speculation and a reach. The only time we see practice clips is preseason and every one shows ball protection drills. You don't think they practice those drills damn near every day?

Maybe Russell's high school coaches were better at it. >:D

This seems like a weird hill for you to die on brother.  Turnovers are just one of many symptoms of dysfunction on this team.  If we were good at other aspects, like blocking, not committing penalties, etc. the effect of the turnovers wouldn't be as big of an issue and we probably wouldn't be discussing it so much.  You can survive being below average at a few things.  I can't really think of many areas where we aren't below average right now, and each year under this staff.  The main problem is that it seems to be getting worse, or at best staying stagnant.

Quote from: The Whyte Boar on Nov 21, 2024, 06:34 AMGeesh, holding on to the ball has nothing to do with talent.

I'm not sure that's entirely true. Given equal coaching, I would argue that a larger, stronger athlete is less likely to have the ball wrenched or punched from his grasp and there is a less defensible argument that a quicker, faster athlete has fewer solid contacts than slower athletes.

Quote from: The Whyte Boar on Nov 21, 2024, 06:34 AMAnd clearly, we don't coach much at all.

You might be correct but this is an assumption and not a statement of fact.

I'd argue that the guys doing the fumbling are as physically gifted as anyone else's guys at their respective positions.  Green is responsible for a lot of them, and he's 6'6", pretty well built and very fast.  Even a big strong dude is going to fumble when holding the ball in one hand away from his body while getting hit.

Dubinion and Jackson both have appropriate size/speed for RBs, yet have had problems holding the ball.  CJ Brown is 6'0' 190...average sized for a WR.

Don't be pedantic.  Yes, if you put me or you out there "talent" would be an issue about holding the ball.  But there aren't guys at Arkansas or anywhere else dropping the ball because they are three stars instead of four stars.

Assumption?  Not really.  Not after five years of observation.

Quote from: The Whyte Boar on Nov 21, 2024, 09:06 AMYou don't even realize what you just said do you?  lol

A freshman, new into the program has accountability and habits that a guy who has been in three years doesn't.  Kind of mirrors what we've seen all across the field doesn't it?  Players spend a couple or three years under Sam and don't improve at all or even regress.

Holy shit. all hail the great coaching at Benton fucking HS!

I feel like I'm in the twilight zone.

I'm guessing Jackson got shitty coaching at Utah and they are to blame. He hasn't been around long enough for Pittman to fuck up his ball security.

jackson has 2 fumbles, same as lavion moss and rocket sanders. so i guess all three coaches suck at attention to detail?  jalen milroe has 5, so i guess deboer really doesn't pay attention.

green has 8 picks, carson beck has 12. so i guess pittman pays better attention to detail than kirby?

taking player accountability out of the equation is just being biased.

I don't disagree but that was not my point; I don't have a dog in this particular fight defending Pittman (in fact, I have advocated for his "retirement" at season's end).

TWB made a couple of definitive statements. I suggested that those statements were debatable.

That is gonna be great.

Where did our new left tackle come from?  We won him in a raffle!
Splash 11! drop ABE track, too confusing

so basically this puts the organizing of the raffle on the university rather than say a casino that's already somewhat set up to do these things?

Yeah I'm not sure that's a good thing.

It's a possibility.

It's also a possibility that the current coaches don't emphasize it enough.

I'm not the one making definitive statements or excluding possible explanations.

So couldn't the collective just partner with the casino to handle it for them?

There is a difference in possible and probable.

It's more likely that they give it lip service, but there is no accountability in this program.

According to the WooPig brain trust, the baseball team doesn't do little league stuff, so it is possible with football too.
