So, if Petrino really is, and let's assume for the sake of argument the airport pic was real, going to interview at Charlotte, he's gone.  Now what?  All those plans about keeping the band together for one more year are up in smoke.  The lamest of lame duck coaches trying to hire an OC.  What's the play?

This isn't a reactionary take, but I think you have to get rid of Pittman if Petrino leaves.

As odd as it is to say that a head coach's fate is tethered to his OC, Petrino was the ace in the hole move by Yurachek last offseason to get fans re-engaged and invested in what looked to be a lame duck year following a shitty 2023 season.

They were lucky to land Petrino because no OC worth a shit wants to hitch their wagon to a head coach who looks like he's on his way out. That was true enough last year (save for Petrino, who isn't your typical case), and it's even more true this time around.

If Petrino leaves, Yurachek doesn't have any more cards left to play where he gets to keep Pittman and still get fans excited about next year. Those two things would be mutually exclusive.

Only tangible thing out there is DJ Williams put out a tweet that there is speculation Pittman will retire. I wouldn't think he'd go that far without credible sources but who knows.

He specifically said he didn't have much beyond people sending him texts and the like and that he was purely speculating.  He said he wouldn't be surprised if Sam retires. 

The interesting thing he said was that he had heard Odom was in the mix and keeping Petrino but that only happens if Sam retires.  And he hasn't told anyone what he is doing yet. 

If that is the case, Petrino looking elsewhere might be a ploy to make Sam shit or get off the pot while also giving him away out of the shit show if Sam decides to stay.

Golden parachute is the only path to retirement.

They aren't going to just let him walk away under contract anymore than he is going to volunteer leaving. There would end up having to have a mutual parting as friends and maybe kick him upstairs.

HY seems hyper focused on being fiscally conservative and being prepared for this lawsuit shit to play out.

What I don't understand about this lawsuit is it's going to be up to the universities to pay past players royalties for NIL but the same univ cannot pay players directly currently. Seems like a fucked up process.
