I can't disagree with this very popular take more.  The SEC was just as strong then as now.

Also, the Eastern division was the dominant division most of those years and we got to play USC-E every year along with one other rotating eastern member.

I can't disagree with this very popular take more.  The SEC was just as strong then as now. 

Our schedule wasn't nearly as tough for most of his tenure. 

Alabama was far worse. 

Ole Miss was far worse. 

Auburn was better. 

LSU was bad for two years, decent to great for the rest. 

Miss State was good for two years and about like this year for the other eight. 

We traded an average SC for a Missouri with an Arkansas native coach who treats us like their Super Bowl.

Also had no A&M on schedule, although to counter that he had some of Fulmer's best Tennessee squads from 1998-2002. 

I looked this up on another board a while back.  We played about 2-3 ranked teams per year on average under Nutt, versus 3-4 for BP, and 5+ under Burt and Pittman.   

Nutt's time at Ole Miss tracks pretty closely with our current situation.   He had two pretty good years and two that were Morris like.  We could expect the same...probably less given that he's past his prime and been out of the game for over a decade.

The biggest difference between Nutt and BP is that the latter didn't lose games to inferior teams...at least not after his first year. 

If Nutt had just taken care of business against Kentucky and Vandy, and against the bad versions of Auburn and Florida we faced in 2003, we would have kept him forever.

SEC during the Nutt years was absolutely weaker than now.  During the Petrino years?  Bolded teams were on our schedule each year.  I'm not looking back at every year but it's hard to imagine the SEC being tougher than 2009-2011.

2008: #1 13-1 Florida and #13 10-3 Georgia in the East. #6 12-2 Bama and #14 9-4 Ole Miss in the West.  SEC 6-2 in bowl games, Florida national champion.

2009: #3 13-1 Florida in the East. #1 14-0 Bama, #7 9-4 LSU, #20 9-4 Ole Miss in the West.  SEC 6-4 in bowl games, Alabama national champion.

2010: #22 9-5 USC in the East.  #1 14-0 Auburn, #8 11-2 LSU, #10 10-3 Alabama, #12 10-3 Arkansas, #15 9-4 Moo State in the West.  SEC 5-5 in bowl games, Auburn national champion.

2011: #9 11-2 USC, #19 10-4 Georgia in the East.  #1 12-1 Alabama, #2 13-1 LSU, #5 11-2 Arkansas in the West.  SEC 6-2 in bowl games, Alabama beat LSU for the national championship.

Even Ken Hatfield sucked.  He won because the entire SWC was on probation for cheating.  And he still lost to bad Texas teams.

Any time we played a good team we got our asses handed to us or lost,check his bowl game record.  Miami in 87, UCLA in the Cotton bowl, OU in Orange Bowl, etc.

We have never been a serious football program in my lifetime.  Save a year or two. 

We are what we are.  Therefore, this year tracks.  6-6, and we were pretty competitive in almost all the games.  That's about what our average is the last 40 years lol.
