Quote from: DirkPiggler on Dec 23, 2024, 09:50 AMWe don't disagree about that.  The only area that differentiates us is the order of operations in making those changes and their relative importance.

How do you know how good a coach is if he is never given equivalent talent as his competitors? If you gave Petrino UGA's offensive players, they would be damn near unbeatable.  I don't give a shit who your coach is, you better have talent.

We did best them by 7 at Georgia with Petrino and Mallett.

Here's the way I look at it. We are going to keep Sam. In my eyes, this means one of two things:

1) He needs more time to get his players and coaches to get deeper into his system and that will yield more wins next year. The old "need time to build depth" bullshit that we used to hear about Bert which we all know is totally irrelevant today.

B; Three SEC wins and a shitty bowl is as good as we can do and we should be satisfied with it. Being in the Sec hunt in the middle of October, knocking on the door of the playoffs, or getting to a good bowl are unrealistic goals of a bygone era. We need to accept that this is what we are and any change might get us back to Chad level which would be viewed as unacceptable. We are where we are supposed to be.

To me, it's obvious that we are going with reason B as to why Sam will continue to be the coach. That is why we aren't serious. Serious programs to not accept mediocrity with a smile and reward it. They don't hire coaches because it was his turn. They don't keep him because he is a fine Christian man. You get the best hired assassin available, give him the resources necessary, don't give him shit about who he is fucking, and get out of his way and let him win ball games. Less than that means you are not serious. You are in the acceptance phase of death.

A serious program also does not hire a coach because previous players really, really liked him. I am with you. We are dead. We have been dead since Chadrick. The only thing that can save us now is if we some how derp our back to success and dont fuck it up this time

Pittman should've been fired after last year's 4-8 debacle.

Remember when Yurachek was like "losing football games" is "cause" for firing after the Chad fiasco. That was BS.

You can go 16-20 in a three-year span where you buy three of your wins each year (UAPB, UAB and La Tech went a combined 11-25 this season) and that is enough now at Arkansas. "Best we can do."

Only thing that will sink him next year is 3-9 or worse.

NIL is recent.   Ole Miss really just leapfrogged us this year.   They had better results before that (although the head to head was about even).

And we have been over Pittman's record in games vs teams with equal or lesser talent ad nauseum.  It isn't great.

I still don't see how you guys don't see the flaw in putting everything on SP and not considering the impact BP and TW make. But you do you...

Whatever impact they have, it isn't enough to overcome BLS.

Quote from: red death on Dec 22, 2024, 10:23 PMEven Ken Hatfield sucked.  He won because the entire SWC was on probation for cheating.  And he still lost to bad Texas teams.

Any time we played a good team we got our asses handed to us or lost, check his bowl game record.  Miami in 87, UCLA in the Cotton bowl, OU in Orange Bowl, etc.

We have never been a serious football program in my lifetime.  Save a year or two.

We are what we are.  Therefore, this year tracks.  6-6, and we were pretty competitive in almost all the games.  That's about what our average is the last 40 years lol.

I wasn't going to go back further than when we joined the SEC but you are 100% right.

Even in Franks day we couldn't consistently beat the better teams.  But whatever.

It interests the mind that in the late 80s it was Franks fault.  Then in The 90s/early 2000s it was the GOBN, then in the 2010s it was back to the ADs fault and now in the 2020s it is NIL/$$$ spend/ADs fault.  Edit: Oh, and when the team has a good year, the SEC is down.

Best years we've had were '10/'11. Those two teams had a ton of talent. We were as good as anyone outside of  Bama and LSU.

3rd in the SEC-West. Ain't no SEC-West Championship of the World.

Those teams would have beaten any of Nutt's teams here with the possible exception of 1998.

It's not putting everything on him.  But when you go 7-17 in one score games, with many of the losses coming to teams with equal or lesser talent, doesn't he deserve at least some of it?

Regardless it seems like we are spending money now.  If next year turns out similarly underwhelming with the same mix of penalties, turnovers, and special teams gaffes we should be able to agree that Sam needs to go.

3rd in the SEC West and yet somehow also 3rd in the nation.

100% agree.  I will always believe Petrino was building a monster and was going to flip the script historically speaking.

So true all you can do is laugh at it.  A team that could challenge for a National Title any other year just happens to come along at the same time that Alabama and LSU have two of their all-time bests.

Which is why I think we can compete at a higher level if we got BP more talent to work with. He's the only one to come close to where we want to be. He's one of the best play callers in all of football.

Since we're still rehashing this, do you believe BP has full control of the offense, including 4th down decisions, clock management and the like?

As with your previous post about getting more talented layer for BP and TW, is that we cannot keep flipping over the roster every year if we expect to get better.

Players have to stay more than a year and apparently BLS didn't know it was going cost so much now.

His Blue Light Special approach is not going to cut it.

he's not the only coach that has commented that player's prices have gone up so i'm not sure what you're trying to say.

coaches can only spend what money they have.
