I get there is a time and place for saying things. This is more or less just fuel to the fire. It gives you one more thing to complain about. No one else in the country has said a word about it.

It would be like me telling my boss in front of my employees that we'd do better if he let me hire better people.  Or the CEO at a company wide.  I can tell you that 90% of leaders would fire that manager before they got back to their desk.

Would a better approach be to tell the nation that you'd love to pay the guys you have more money?  At least they'd think you have their back.

I guess I need to know more about the context about blue light special comment. Where it was made, who was around, and exactly what was said. It's never struck me as incorrect or a problem, but apparently it sticks in a lot of people's craws here.

If the Boss says to hire someone for a project that needs a Sr level talent but only gives you enough money to get a Jr level talent, then complains that the work isn't adequate enough, then he needs to know why. In this case, the boosters/fans are the boss.

You guys seem to have a much bigger issue with this than I and I work for a Fortune 100 company with a military structure and mindset.

He was being interviewed on Gameday.   It was intentional.

I searched Youtube but couldn't find it. Sam was being interviewed by the Gameday crew while he walked around the field during pregame warmups before the Ole Miss game. He said that their DL was Louis Vuitton or something similar and that our OL was made up of blue light specials. He said it in an aw shucks way and may have been trying to be funny but it was stupid in every way possible. I took it as him making excuses before the game even started. Very Hootie-esque. The combination of shitting on his own players, implying that we're too poor to compete with Mississippi to a national audience, and doing it while walking around a field with the Wal-Mart logo on it is hard to comprehend. I had to rewind it because I thought I didn't hear him correctly.

Then he proceeded to get mushroom stamped on his own field in humiliating fashion. Indefensible.

My initial understanding was he said it while he was on a hot mic pregame. Dirk cleared that up. Did you niss that part?

I have no problem with the statement, it's true. If some have a problem where it was said, I get that. I'm not as bothered as some. Coaches (even ours) have said far worse things than that. I don't recall it being picked up by none of the national media either.

I'm the same. I don't see the big deal. It certainly doesn't bother me.

The national media no longer knows that we have a football program. It's not national news when you suck. The Gameday crew got a kick out of it though.

To be clear, it isn't so much what he said but that he said it all. It was incredibly stupid and there was simply no reason for it. He wasn't prompted. If Dale had said some shit like that on national TV everyone would've lost their shit. I'm not sure why it's hard to understand having the same reaction toward Pittman, but to each their own.

Do you think comments like that help rally the fanbase to contribute to NIL? I wonder what the recruits think of it?

I think it's more of a dig to our boosters than anything. I doubt recruits even heard/noticed it.

If boosters are already holding back money for NIL, then it's a mute point.

Dale constantly threw players under the bus. He called into a morning show to argue with Wally fucking Hall (which got national attention). He had Danny fucking Nutt on the sidelines. I can go on. What Pittman said fails in comparison to that shitbird.

Most Arkansas football observers have come to terms with the reality that Arkansas has a smaller population and recruiting base than many other programs, but the idea that Ole Miss is significantly ahead of Arkansas from an NIL contribution standpoint is an indictment of anyone leading this program over the last few years, including the coaching staff. If Pittman hasn't helped raise the level of funds to be able to have the depth to compete with Ole Miss, Pittman's as much to blame for that as anyone else.
