Yes Arkansas Football can only do so much. Is that really that shocking of a revelation? We're not living in a pre 1990 world anymore.  We are held back by mediocre thinking, mediocre funding, lack of in-state talent, and now no longer a unique alternative in the SEC for Texas and Oklahoma recruits. That is fact not supposition or hyperbole. We are competing against programs allocating 20 to 30 million per year on just the football program NIL/collective. We aren't anywhere near that I assume. We will be lucky to be a bowl team on a year basis.

Arkansas athletics seems to want their cake and eat it too. They still want heavy donations to the athletic department pretending to be so so poor...despite hella large tv revenue on a yearly basis. They still want that donor money rolling in and they now want even more and if you don't give it's your fault and not theirs. At least that's what I'm getting out of a lot of their messaging.

So sure it's lazy "journalism" to correctly point out that Arkansas is conceding football in favor of basketball but at the end of the day football still pays the bills and always will. We must put forth an effort to at least hold serve on being a moderately decent football program however for the time being I absolutely believe we are going thru the motions. That in part may be due to the on-coming court cases and trying to figure out budgets etc moving forward.

The silver lining to be had here? We are the pro sports team in the state of Arkansas. The official licensed apparel that is sold historically leads or is near the top nationally. We're kind of a big deal when it comes to overall fan support although perhaps less so in this digital age. Still going by these metrics there's no reason why we can't be a real threat in the NIL game. 

Sam Pittman is not the man to lead us out of the wilderness, nor is Bobby Petrino. Petrino may be able to round out his career here respectfully but I think he's probably too old and set in his ways to have any real meaningful lasting impact. Pittman was always just going to be a yokel that might instill a bit of pride back into the program and kick the can down the road until we made a real hire.

In typical Arkansas fashion somebody somewhere is hoping Barry Lunny Jr or Dowell Loggains actually turns into a great head coach and will probably wait too late to scoop up somebody like the dude at UTSA.

He doesn't mention the great years we have under Petrino but here some oldie but goodie quotes that the media has been shoving down our throats since 2007.

People keep pining for the days of Houston Nutt and all the success that was had back then, and, yes, there were a lot of great memories. There were so many great NFL caliber local players, and Nutt used them to their fullest.

Fans don't have to be happy with another 7-6 season, but don't pretend winning at Arkansas isn't a big deal. The Razorbacks are one coaching move from potentially being back in the wilderness again, and suddenly 7-6 will become a dream season once again like it was for pretty much an entire decade before Pittman.

Add the fact that the growth of the state of Arkansas has been boat raced by GA, FL, SC, the part of TN where UT is, and Texas.  Since 1990 several of those states have grown by more than Arkansas' population.  We are just now crawling past 3 million.

We need a Walton to buy us a team to keep up.
