Watching the BMFP show now...didn't realize the defense held them to 1/8 on 3rd downs.  That's a massive improvement.

It is impressive how well we have done on 3rd down and red zone TDs.  Bobby needs to get the 3rd quarter offense figured out though.  It is unacceptable how bad they have been in that quarter.

Bad third quarters is something that has affected us the entire time Sam has been here.  It's like they lose focus in the locker room.

obviously there are things the other team's defensive coaches are picking up on from bobby's offense in the first half.  they make a few tweaks, and its like bobby isn't ready for it.

you'd think he'd know what kind of adjustments teams have made and will make and have another plan for the 3rd quarter to exploit that.  maybe he is and he is way overthinking it and he should just keep doing what was working in the first half.  who knows.

Not football related and it didn't effect me, but yesterday at the basketball scrimmage Cal grabbed the mic and said he's leaving it up to the players if they want to take pictures with kids on the court after. Fuck that. They are being paid tons of money to play college basketball. I would've told them get their asses out there for 30 minutes. This is what college sports have become.

Sure. Why should they offer free autographs when they expect to get paid for anything and everything.

Beat Allbarn and Moostate and I think that it will be very difficult for Hog fans to accept anyone else.  The amount of talk the Offense has nationally is really something.  Not sure how much interest we will garner from other coaches out there with Petrino shooting all over SEC defenses's belly buttons.  They know what's up.

Regarding he general idea of beating Auburn, it would be nice but I'm just looking for improvement.  At this point I don't care if we win or lose, just show that things are getting better.  Until they name BP coach, I won't allow myself to expect much.

I have come to think the only thing that will improve the defense is different players. We see better effort under Petrino but not really different results. Teams still pretty much score at will.

Teams won't even accidentally fumble, not even a Stoernover or self-inflicted, against us. Our defense is the very definition of Doesn't Piss A Drop. Dry as a bone.

They're soft and seem to try to avoid contact.  No one tries to lay a hit, no one wants to get in there blow someone up.  They lay off and basically wait for the opponent to come to them then arm tackle.  You see it over and over and over again on tape.

I don't think that's something you can teach. Either you love to hit somebody (and like to do it through football) or you don't. Instinctively, in the moment, you'll do what you are.

I keep wondering if these guys were told by the previous D staff to pull up and not risk over shooting their target or drawing a foul.  That's the rationalization I keep giving myself... but I'm afraid that you're right.

This year is shaping up remarkably like John L. Smith's one year 2012.  So maybe we will win two conference games?  Which seemed like a horror show then, and seems like a ray of light now.  Jeez.

 

Jacksonville State W 49-24 (matches our two rent a wins)

La-Monroe L 34-31 (matches Memphis)

Alabama L 52-0 (matches Notre Dame)

Rutgers L 35-26 (not really a good match)

Texas A&M L 58-10 (matches our cumulative 3 SEC losses, clearly reflective of awful defense)

Next 2 games:

Auburn W 24-7 (we will see if it matches)

Kentucky W 49-7 in Fayetteville (perhaps match Mississippi St. Nov 1?)

From then on we lost our other 4 SEC games and beat only Tulsa 19-15.  We have no more OOC this year.
