Was intrigued to watch Charlotte vs. San Antonio (NSJ/Brandon Miller vs. Wemby) tonight, and I get that it's summer league, but good Lord was that some bad basketball. Just all around terrible basketball...disappointing.

This Chet Holmgren guy gets his shit pushed in on nearly every scrap for the ball. Williams is a better ball player but probably more of a 4 in the league.

Knee Management Jr still can't shoot, but Walsh seems to be doing better since the handcuffs have come off.

Hope nothing but the best for all of our guys. Brad Stevens knows a thing or 2 about basketball and talent so maybe JW landed in the perfect spot.

I agree that the other JW is probably a traditional NBA 4, but in today's game is damn near the prototypical NBA 5.

While I don't care for either Holmgren or Wemby, once they figure out how to deal w/ the upgrade in physicality they will probably both thrive due to their length and skill set.

they played in their college coach's system that had defined roles for them.

and they got to the sweet 16. they did okay against those average college basketball players.

Agreed, I watched. Wemby looked way overrated and Smith looked awful.

Wemby looked great in his second game and the Spurs have shut him down for the rest of the summer league. NSJ and Brandon Miller have both looked like shit. AB struggled against the Pacers in his second game.

In the video above Black made a nice step back deep two.  He never did that last year.  He also made a three of the dribble, pop and stop.  Again, never did that last year. 

Now NSJ goes for 30.  He never came close to being that player. 

It is fascinating is all I'm saying. 

There may be something to Walsh's comments on having been held back in Muss' system.

Or, and just go with me here: both guys are benefitting from having a year of development,now playing with a full team of pro talent (even if the summer teams are basically college all-star level at this point), and NSjr is finally getting close to healthy and picking up where he left off at the start of last year (he was lighting it up for pro scouts against draft talent before the start of the season). I would have loved for these guys to have put it all together for the one year they were here, but we all knew the nba would get better versions of them than what we would get to watch on the Hill. And a lot of that has to do with Muss making them better.

Most of these guys aren't even getting a year of development in college. It's really more like 8 or 9 months at best. The mark left on these players by Muss is more mentality and getting themselves ready for the NBA grind. He shows them how to work from a pre-game scouting perspective. I think that's why the light bulb comes on by tourney time. I think that's his biggest factor that sets him apart from other schools. Arkansas prepares like an NBA team does (allegedly) well really more like a g-league team but whatever we're splitting hairs. Practice is the games...that's why these guys get long minutes. He wants to shake guys down and see what they are made of and with the limits in team practices you just can't sim what you'll see in a real game. When you add in that dynamic of bringing in players that pretty well know they are draft picks worth millions you either somehow convince them to listen to you as if you are Coach K or they'll tune you out. That's what has happened at Kentucky. That blue jersey was once worth a high draft selection...now not so much. Cal isn't cranking out the cream of the crop.

The style of the pro game vs how college basketball is governed is the main difference. The NBA wants scoring, encourages it, gears the entire sport around being fast paced and easy on the eyes. College has become a slow plodding brick fest and going to the free throw line. There is virtually no emphasis on fundamentals, the vast majority of players can't shoot for shit but continue to jack shows like they are Seth Curry. The NBA may look like guys aren't playing hard but I think a lot of the times people just don't realize how good these guys are vs what you see out of college players. NBA guys especially a lot of these guys that had to spend a few years in the G have league standard plays drilled into them so much so they can do it in their sleep.

Muss's system got him multiple wide open looks that he proceeded to piss down his leg and either make a pass late in the shot clock or dribble into triple coverage under the basket. He had plenty of chances to score.

I think we are seeing what a healthy NSJ can do. He basically lost a 1/w 2 to 3/4 year of development to injury while everyone else got a full year between games and practice

walsh has game high 25 points tonight.

black scored 8 but had a tip in at the buzzer to send it to ot. also had game high 14 rebounds.

We saw flashes of what Nick could do vs Oklahoma, Georgia, and at Bama last season. He was awful in the tournament so I think every forgets he had great games against those teams.

AB had games where he put up monster numbers, especially in Maui. He has struggled with his shot and turnovers in two of three summer league games this season.

Walsh is the surprising one. His comments about the leash being off might be on point. He took 20 shots last night and scored 25 points. He has had two very efficient games in summer league so far.
