Spiderham

Sam is a bit like Danny Ford.  A good ole boy who knows what an SEC player looks like.  Our roster is in much better shape than post Chad but our O line is made up of mediocre upperclassmen or young, inexperienced guys who are just starting to figure it out in the SEC.
He will leave us with better talent much like Ford did.
A coach can win here immediately especially with the portal and some NIL money thrown in the right spots.
We have just missed on getting experienced O line portal players time and time again.  It is showing.
Oak Grove in the house.

DRYANKNPULL

Danny Ford won a national championship and took us to a sec championship while beating Alabama in Tuscaloosa.

Sam Pittman has won 10 career conference games.

This isn't given in the portal era.

Quote from: Cornhogio on Oct 02, 2023, 11:17 AMDid we even have a list of OC's to hire if we lost Briles, or was this a panic hire?  If it was a thoughtful hire, then the thinking was dogshit.

I'm fairly certain Sam even publicly stated that after Briles turned down the first offer he got after the season (wasn't it South Carolina or Miami?), he got in touch with Enos as a contingency plan in case it happened again. So when the TCU offer came, we told him to go because Pittman had Enos on the hook.

Yep that's pre portal/nil thinking

Any coach that's employed today or hired in the near future who has the financial backing, charisma, and all that other jazz should be able rapidly retool a roster pretty much regardless of the sport.

That may require running off kids you said you wouldn't do that too and that may be the rub with Pittman if we've got some guys that just aren't coming along. Like why are we still putting Chavis and Bishop on our 105? They are older guys that don't play...not even on special teams but dress out.

Or the Deion way, running off kids you said you WOULD do that to.

It only appears that way because because of poor coaching. They have better talent than their record shows, but the current offense does not fit the talent on hand.

It will cost Sam his job. I hope it doesn't decimate the team with portal transfers during the transition to a new coaching staff.

If that happens that will take my interest down another notch.  Football is approaching basketball - instead of one and done it is one and somewhere else.
Splash 11! drop ABE track, too confusing

Roster is gonna turn over anyway.  Can't let that stop you from doing anything.

We'll lose some, but with the right hire we'll gain some as well.

Yeah, exactly.  That's the game now.  We have to play it.  And I wS firmly against NIL and at will transfers, but it is a tremendous opportunity for a program like ours.  We can turn over a roster every year.  Now is not the time for 62 year old career assistants.  Now is the time for young offensive gurus who excite players.  That excitement is the biggest thing we lost when we lost Briles.  No offensive players want to come here just so they can play for Enos.

Colorado was dead in the water with a roster full of losers when they hired Sanders.

The roster was completely turned on its head when he got there and they're now Top-25 and the talk of the town (2 recent losses aside).

Point being: It no longer matters what the team looks like. The next coach will have the luxury (and the expectation) to remake it into his image ASAP.

I still think Yurachek doesn't pull the trigger for one more year.
The Lord wants you to put your foot on their balls and believe in it. 'Cuz that's what wins football games. Not jumping offsides like a bunch of wimps and faggots. I don't care what those pinkos over in Russia say. You want to be a loser? You go live in Russia. I'm a winner. I'm an American.

hence my waning interest

I don't give a shit if a couple of rich guys go buy us a football team.

I couldn't agree more. It's the only way for a program like Arkansas to compete and be successful. That and they have to have a strong NIL game. I am not sure why it is so hard for the people running the program to understand.

Damn it why didn't I think of that. Hey maybe we should look at shaking things up by running less predictable plays too.

You mean like running or throwing away from where the opposing DL is stacked? Like that?
Well, shit...

This seems to be something worth looking into. As long as it takes us to snap the ball it should give us ample opportunity to figure out if the defense is shifting to one side and then do the opposite. This whole thing where they'll never expect us to run right into their strong side isn't working out.

Quote from: Pig Benis on Oct 02, 2023, 05:04 PMI still think Yurachek doesn't pull the trigger for one more year.

It's simply not going to happen this year even if we lose out.

Year 1: we look like an SEC team again.

Year 2: my god! 9-4! The future's so bright, we gotta wear shades. Sam toast of the town.

Year 3: Hm. 7-6. But a bowl victory. And several close losses. Could have easily been 9-4 again.

Year 4: WTF?

One WTF year does not equal a firing. Sam Pittman is going to be the 2024 Razorback football coach. He ain't quitting either. 2 bad years in a row, he'll be gone then one way or the other.
