The NFL's biggest issue is the exalted role the referees have taken since fucking Mike Pereira was running that for the league. He truly believes as do the shitballs that followed him, that fans love the role of referees and their infliction into the game. They are totally inept to the point they look like refs for a Jerry Lawler wrestling match. The way to fix it is to go to the aafl model having a replay official at the game with 32 cameras who can fix anything and overrule anything. It ran great in that league; very efficient.

Why can't they make the officials full time league employees? It is not like the NFL can't afford it. It is mind boggling the head of officials is a full time gig but the officials are basically independent contractors.

That's not going to solve the problem for 17 games a season. And a bunch of these crews are full time. All full time refs will just exacerbate the intrusion of refs into the game. Las Vegas needs to pay a visit to the owners and lay down the line to get their shit together.

Everything needs to be reviewable. But keep New York out. Add more cameras, like double, that aren't the TV feed. Add a ref in the box that runs the game. Put sensors in the ball, the uniforms, shoes, markers, field, to shift it to AI. Drones can do a better job than most of the humans they have. But it starts with the owners shutting down the refs. Take away their mics and let them use hand signals and the Pa announcer. They think folks really love them. Most are fucking lawyers.
