That seems to be an accurate explanations. The only video of it I saw during the game was of Skipper reporting and Decker not. I didn't know that reporting and then lining up covered is also a penalty, so Skipper gets a flag as well.

It seems like Campbell drew up a super cool illegal play and before the game, he announced to the refs how he intended to break a couple of rules in a 2 point scenario.

There are judgement calls by the refs on every play ie holding and contact. This isn't a judgement call. You either report and line up properly or you don't. The Lions didnt.

I retract my previous claim that it was a chickenshit call.  I was wrong.

If you watch the video though, Decker and another dude are over by the ref and Decker clearly is talking to the ref, the ref nods and starts to walk away.  As the ref is walking away, Skipper is running onto the field and is 5+ yards away from the ref and the ref is walking away.  To say Decker didn't check in and Skipper did is...very fucking hard to believe as the ref never even really looked at Skipper who was 5+ yards away and Decker was right there talking to him and received a nod.

Sounds more like the ref got confused about all the huge humans talking to him and such and got the numbers fucked up since Skipper had checked in previously as an eligible guy earlier in the game.

It looks to me like he was looking directly at Skipper at one point. 

But I digress. 

I still don't get the attempted deception when the number of the eligible receiver is going to be (1) told directly to the opposing lineman and (b) announced to God and everyone. 

If Squirrelly Dan, one of his staff or any player had been paying attention, they would've heard the announcement of the wrong number and could've addressed it.

If you listen, the refs announced right then that 70 was the eligible receiver.  So if it was a mistake and the ref got confused and announced 70 when 68 had been the one who announced, it was right there for the staff to catch and call a timeout about before the play happened.

They were out of timeouts, but the clock was stopped and I would think they could've even gotten some or all of the play reset due to the error. 

Campbell just won't admit he got caught up in the heat of the moment, something he has always done. It served him well as a player, not as much as a head coach.

Cowboys fans are pretty pissed about what happened a couple minutes earlier...

when the refs called tripping on Hendershot when it was a Detroit player that actually tripped someone and there was no conceivable penalty on Hendershot.  Killed the drive earlier (would've likely been game with a 1st down) and

Nobody actually at the stadium had any idea what happened on the 2 pt conversion and the controversy once I saw it on Twitter, ESPN etc was a shocker.

A lot of people were pissed the "fumble" on Lamb earlier in the game wasn't an incomplete pass.

No way to sugarcoat it. We got thumped soundly and just aren't ready to climb to the upper level. Shat the bed in all three big road games (plus one neutral) where there was a chance to make a statement.

The worst part is the PTB are all in on Tu-High with no serviceable backup.

There is audio picked up of the ref telling the Cowboys D that 70 checked in as eligible.  So in that case the Cowboys covered Skipper who lined up ineligible (which drew one flag) and didn't cover 68.  Now whether the ref fucked it up or not is a different issue.

The CeeDee fumble on tv looked like a catch.  Unfortunate he then fumbled it out of the end zone.  I think the rule will be changed in the offseason as the touchback is very punitive.  I think it will be Defense ball at the point of the fumble. 

This ref crew is horrible.  They've had several of the bad calls this season.  The tripping call was a huge mistake and changed the progression of the game.  Parsons was being held with choke holds all night without a single flag.

He should have stuck with something with more provenance like the qb pretending he couldn't hear the play or the slot back backhandsprings play. For something even more outlandish, after the penalty, he could have tried to kick the pat.
