I just don't get why you have to jump into a small pond in the steeplechase. Who came up with that? Now if it had a gator or an electric eel in it, perhaps. Making the athletes run around in wet shoes. Ridiculous.

It should be run on a road course like cross country but have to clamber down a ditch and cross a creek and climb over logs.  That puddle is just an annoyance.  T

I always think the steeplechase races are interesting-- both on foot and horseback. I think the steeplechase races on horseback are much more common in Europe, but there are a few every year in the US, at places like Saratoga.
