I missed why he said it the first time, but the announcer kept talking about "fool's gold" with Thomas. What the hell was he talking about?

He was saying that taking and making the tough shot's was "fool's gold". I believe he was trying to say that making those was like "fool's gold" in that they were gratifying at the moment, but you couldn't depend on them long-term. Or something like that.
