He might be one of the worst....but this team's makeup is REALLY GOOD....they can defend their man well...team defense is lacking, but when you can switch and keep people in front, you are going to be tough....

We need to get Ewin involved in the high post...he has great hands, can pass, and is shifty...we are going to struggle against a quality big...especially if we don't double....so we need he and TB to be tough for them to guard...

i'm disappointed that pringle isn't that guy that can go toe to toe inside.  if he was, with tb playing the way he is, we'd be very hard to beat.

Quote from: Sus-Scrofa on Dec 04, 2025, 10:09 AMThat moment of dread when they went on a run in the second half.  Not just normal "oh shit" type dread, but that dread filled certainty that we were going to give up the lead and lose the game.

I wonder if that ever goes away or if it's a permanent scar on Arkansas fans' brains?

I can't imagine fans of teams like Duke go through that kind of mental trauma every game.

I was watching some boxing highlights and Jermain Taylor had a few and I realized he is the PERFECT Arkansas Boxer and then I realized he is likely the way he is because he is from Arkansas.  Awesome fighter, wins the whole fight, dominant...then at the end, gets knocked out cold, over and over.

In time, you start thinking about it and it leads to you doing things that end up getting you knock out whereas if you just did you thing, it wouldn't happen so often.  I think Arkansas kids or even teams know about it and our history and start thinking about it and it ends up being one of those self-perpetuating things.

We do run good stuff in situations. The base "transition" offense is where we don't do much. We expect a guy to beat his man and make a play. Very NBA like which is a Cal selling point. We've also ran really good stuff on out of bounds. Did it again last night.

This difference in this team is that we have a point guard who can get to the basket whenever he wants.  And if you back off o him, he will make you pay.   In late game situations, he can simply take over.  He can get to the rim and score at will.

That's hard to beat.  He is only going to get better.

Speaking of NBA, there was that maybe 3 minute stretch in the 2nd half where Brown and Acuff just took turns driving to the basket for scores and nobody could stop them. VERY NBA like.
I need help and I know it.

We play really well when we're moving without the ball. But when we have 3-4 guys just standing around watching, we better pray the shot goes in. Gotta get better at moving without the ball.

Also, we have to be one of the worst at defending the pick and roll. We did better last night but we're still giving away too many easy buckets to it.

Our spacing was much better against Louisville.  Ball movement has definitely improved.

Cal has said many times that he's not out there drawing up plays for guys, like Knox as an example.  It's not his style.  He wants his players to figure it out.  He allows his guys to have autonomy to an extent.

He wants his kids to be coaches.  Acuff is going to be that kid.  He even let's his kids pull players out and put others in, if he trusts them.
