The tornado is usually right at the top of the bow that shows up on radar and is fairly weak, the winds that happen with a derecho are what can mess things up over a couple of hundred miles. The jet stream gets pushed down by the height of the thunderstorm.

I checked with our Houston office which is by IAH and looks like our only damage was to a van and some trees.

I was replacing sprinkler heads in the back yard Saturday afternoon and my back still looks like a salmon filet. Do we even have an ozone layer anymore?

Yes but no. The 12,000yr cycle is flipping the poles. Sunburn is going to be the least of our worries.
