We live East of Fayetteville and about an hour ago got hammered with hail. I'll have to replace a roof and the West side of my siding. Trees are stripped of leaves. Lots of golf ball sized hail.

Sorry to hear that.  Hopefully your insurance won't give you any crap and move fast.

I think tornado alley has moved east somewhat the past few years. Last May, there were like 144 tornado watches/warnings from Louisiana up through Kentucky. We finally decided to get a shelter installed in our garage. It is above ground. We have it outfitted with ear muffs (for noise), lights, and survival packs.
Well, shit...

It will be interesting with their new hail damage policy. We shall see how much they pay. All the insurance companies have changed to a percentage of payment based on age of roof and extent of damage. Not like the old days when they were just throwing money out to buy new roofs.

Make sure it's registered with the police and fd.  So they know to come dig you out.

Yep. I'm not trying to be a dick about it. It could have lived. It didn't. Not by my choice. -Elvis

Oh I understand and agree. Between health, home, auto, personal property we are insuranced out. Most would be much better off with some type of catastrophic insurance and pay their way out of the smaller claims.

It is registered. And they won't have to dig us out. It is above ground, and the doors open to the inside.
Well, shit...

Was just closing on a new place and was dealing with insurance for escrow. There were still a few companies that would insure at replacement costs, but your annual premiums adds $1K+ to the mortgage. AND, NOT only is it age/percentage, the percentages drop dramatically after the first 3-5 yrs. Throw in their added deductibles and within 7 years of a new roof, replacement will be at the owner's cost and insurance won't have to pay out a dime.

I just saw a State Farm agent and a homeowner on IG go nuts over hail damage. He had hail 2" in diameter at his home..tons of dents on the aluminum siding, holes in his vinyl fencing, and roof damage. The agent denied the claim saying there was no hail .75" or larger in the area and that they wouldn't cover any damage smaller from hail. Power had pics timestamped with location and they still said no. Also fuck State Farm. I've never been happier to dump a company than I did when I moved here because they rip people off.

Can your state dept of insurance fight against these asshole insurance carriers who try to fuck over the people and not pay out?

I loathe State Farm. I wanted to physically fight my old agent. I know it's not his fault, but he sure is reaping the benefits of my home and autos being on his book.
Last thing I told him was cancel everything and I hope he goes out of business.

they keep calling me back for car insurance and asking if they can get my business back and I tell them well you can't because you have the highest rates of anyone in Denver. I told the guy every time he calls th rate is higher and my rates with progressive have stayed the same and honestly I've had a better overall experience with claims and so forth with progressive here. I think State Farm wanted 6 months ago $220/month for my five year old Volvo to insurer. I was like you guys insured it two years at $120 then it jumped to $185 without a single claim being filed. I pay something like $140 without progressive and get the discount for paying for the whole year and they can't ever beat that. Fuck them

I just want to be the fly on the wall one day when they call you.  Might be more fun to be on their wall though so I can see the verbal abuse trauma creep across their face.
