I'm not sure how this can be avoided.  They have to give the other school tickets.  The other schools hand them out and then the fans resell.

I'm sure we'd have fans doing the same thing if we were traveling for the supers.

The university can void the ticket if terms are violated. Technically one of those terms is that the tickets can't be resold for above face value. 

They would probably get sued and would have a hard time defending themselves considering that they have a partnership with SeatGeek that enables Hog fans to do the exact same thing.  But they do have the ability to void the ticket. 

Years ago, a friend had a box that he kept renewing for the Kentucky Derby.  All he had to do each year was keep paying for it and it was renewable indefinitely.  Except that Churchill Downs found an ad he posted (pre-internet) where he was selling it for far above face value for Derby weekend.  They took the box away from him going forward.  Oaklawn has at least threatened to do the same thing to box holders there. 

This is a case where the NCAA needs to step in and, at the very least, amend their policies to avoid such practices in the future.

the fact that a tenner fan turned around and tried to sell the ticket isn't the foundations fault. as dirk mentioned, seems to be an issue for the ncaa to get straightened out.

He should have known beforehand, and the ticket should have been made void when the buyer (now seller) violated the Terms and Conditions.  Then they could have given the guy his ticket back.  The response is classic RF:  "Sorry about that, don't be late with your donation."

the ncaa has been allotting tickets this way for years. the guy even says so in the responses to his tweet. he got unlucky this go a round, and unless he had the proverbial crystal ball, there was no way to know the ticket was going to be resold. this was going to happen to him and 599 others regardless.

dirk mentioned what could be done to void the ticket and the feasibility of doing so.
