I hate the voice of the True South guy.  He sounds like a hipster trying to fake a southern accent.  It's like nails on a chalkboard to me. 

Yes!  It seems like he has the worst combination of vocal strain, accent, no accent, back to accent, all at once.

I've watched football for a long time and have never seen that before.

He's from rural Georgia and has spent most of his life as an academic in Oxford.  He affects that snooty north Mississippi southern literary diction talking like drunken William Faulkner.  I had an English teacher in 11 grade that sounded just like him and several in college.

I dont knock anyone's southern accent as long as it's real.  There are lots of regional differences.  I'm a Texan that grew up in Arkansas and Memphis.  I'm fucking linguistic roadkill.  When I moved to California they were going to hire an interpreter for me. Actually they couldnt figure out my euphemisms.  "Well ain't that the monkey fucking the skunk!" Was always a good one to throw at them.

Mine is so bad that it makes me sound dumb. I was in Chicago once and people were wanting to pay me a dollar just to talk. My kids even make fun of the way I say rice, and ice,

Haha.  Me too.  I say that to all the fellas and fellets at work.  I'm constantly saying "rebuilding, rebuilding" every time I use cooking spray.
