I also don't understand how there wasn't at least a running into the kicker call.  I guess maybe the ball was tipped, but then again that would have made it even less possible for the ball to have taken the trajectory the officials said it did.

A buddy of mine (and a longtime lurker here) was sitting on the front row on the 50 yard line right behind the Hogs. He said as soon as the ball went off of the punter's foot he thought it was coming right to him but did head back towards the field.

Not sure what happened. Like you said, may have been tipped. Of course it's Texas...so may have been some real JFK "magic bullet" energy in the air.

Also agree on the running into the kicker though. We never got another angle or replay of that. I rewound and watched it many times. Looked for alternate views on the webs. Maybe it was tipped, maybe one of our players pushed the defender into him and that's why there was no flag. But from the view we have, it looks to me like he got straight up smoked.
Pants ironed and back for more

I was actually sitting high in the north endzone, though more to the opposite side of the field.  That punt looked weird, like a straight shank.  I have no idea how it hit that close to the field because it looked like it was going to end up ten rows in the stands.

Agree.  I was there too and that ball definitely looks like a curved shank.  I was sitting even with the punter but you could see that he shanked it and it was spinning hard.

I don't know the rule; is the ball out where it crosses the sideline or out where it lands?  If it curved out of bounds but then lands in bounds then it is out where it curved over?

bogeyfree

I am fairly sure that it's where it goes out of bounds(not where it lands out of bounds).  I think they probably got it close to correct based on how that ball was spinning.

I do NOT know what the ruling would be if the ball crossed out of bounds and somehow spun back into the field of play and was caught and returned by the returner.

Are punts treated differently than passes?  You see receivers catching passes on the sidelines where the ball is clearly out of bounds prior to possession.  Just curious how that works withing the framework of the rules.

Third_down_draw

I was thinking the ball went out of bounds early then curved back in but did not land in bounds so it was out where it first crossed the sideline. The camera work was so bad it's hard to tell what happened. The other camera guys must have been on a smoke break .

Good point.  Idk

It's just hard to believe that a ball would spin that hard.  Like an over-the-top slice for a lefty golfer...with the oblong ball and not spinning consistently, maybe I guess.
Perish peacefully in a warm environment.

egregious

How could they line it up and know where it took the left turn?

All they would have is the angle it started at and where it ended up.  It could have done the curving over the field.
Splash 11! drop ABE track, too confusing

By the way, we seriously need to talk about our game day atmosphere.  Literally everything about Texas was better and not just by a little.

Can't lose the wine and cheese atmosphere

For $7 mil I'll put a webcam in front of my shitter so I can answer fan questions while I drop the Longhorns off in College Station.

Darrell Royal Stadium made Razorback Stadium look like WMS.

No lines for drinks or bathrooms.

Our game day atmosphere would be much better if we were 7-3.

Yeah...no, it would be, but it was a lot more than that.

Instead of a garbled PA announcer hyping Petit Jean meats they had two professional quality emcees down on the field directing all the cheers and the award presentations during the timeouts.  Half the Jumbotron WAS NOT taken up by adds.  They had past Longhorn stars come out and led cheers.  They had live entertainment in the form of a live band come out and play and lead the whole stadium in a quasi fight song everyone knew.  They had light show and would turn out the lights during timeouts and get everyone hyped.

I mean it was just...impressive, slick, and well put together.  In short everything ours isn't.  I didn't want to be impressed, but I couldn't help it.

You could probably visit ANY stadium in the SEC and come away thinking our experience sucks in comparison.  For that matter you could do the same in the B1G or ACC too.  We're Sun Belt quality.

You're probably right.  I mean does anyone from our athletic department visit any of these stadiums just to get some ideas?  You can't go see that and go "Yeah, we're good."  Some of it could be done for probably not that much more money.

vegashog

seems everyone complains about it, but nothing gets done.

can't be all about money, probably just inertia because the older folks like it the way it is.

Zoso

I was at the Georgia/Charlotte game and even though it was Charlotte you would have thought it was Bama from a game experience standpoint. I can't imagine what it would be like against Bama/Florida/LSU at night.

HogOfWar

I tailgate with some shortwhorns outside one of the parking garages leading to the stadium. Nice people overall.

The guy that invited me over offered me a beer. It was Corona Light. He said that Corona sponsors about 8 tailgates through the university. They got about 18 cases of beer for the year I think he said. Maybe per game.

You don't see that at Arkansas. They told the guys from Meeks they couldn't use their trailer in the garden since it was advertising.
