Even high school players know to kill time when recovering a loose ball, 9 seconds left, 1 pt lead. Go to the corner. Do a Curly Neal dribble around the court. Absolutely anything to kill time. I see college players do it all the time. And this guy is getting paid millions.

There was a guy on Youtube a year or so ago that highlighted a lot of these bonehead decisions and terrible shots in bad situations and related it all back to AAU ball.  He said so many of these guys grew up playing in AAU tournaments every weekend where they might play half a dozen games.  The point is not about winning the games but showcasing individual skill, so they don't learn how to win.  Then maybe, they play one year of college and don't play long enough to take coaching.  When they get to the NBA they lack the awareness that the Euros get of playing fewer games in organizations trying to win championships and revert back to AAU hero ball too often.

It makes sense as a theory.  Who knows though?

The Spurs fell in love with the three in the second half, and sure enough their 3 pt shooting percentage regressed to the mean.  Not only that, but they were taking those in the front half of the shot clock.  So they shot for shit, and did it fast.  Serves them right.
