Some Master of the Obvious bullshit, but among all the bad things about this team, the worst is we don't have a point guard. We don't have anyone you can put the ball in his hands and say, run the offense. Do we have an offense he could run anyway? But, no one to be the guy to tell everyone else what to do, pointing around with the ball in his hands. That position is completely non-existent on this team.

At the time, trying to make Devo into a point guard seemed pretty stupid. In retrospect, it seems like the goddamned dumbest thing I have ever witnessed.

I don't know that I've ever really liked the Muss offense but it almost kinda made sense when we had Notae, Joe, and Jones running it. We would get up on teams, win the foul game, make our free throws, and go iso and there just wasn't much teams could do. That led to us getting better and better and end-game situations later in the season. 

That team with Whitt, Smith, Williams, Notae, and Moody was probably our best offense and it struggled shooting the ball for much of the season. Seems to be a common theme with Muss teams, we blamed it on hard practices and defensive focus but maybe it was just shitty/lazy coaching. Last season's team was a total shit show but was over came because those guys did have raw ability and NBA talent...something you can't say about a swinging dick on this current team. Graham I could see playing overseas but he's never sniffing an NBA roster. Blocker has a very long ways away, shows flashes but something just isn't clicking with him...not so sure Ford wasn't better than him.

This entire team this season just smacks of hubris from both the coaches and probably the players. There's been zero efforts made toward developing kids thru the program and 100% effort on flipping the roster each and every year. We can talk about the modern realities and all that and I get it but I'm seeing other programs retain guys so don't tell me it can't be done. The players have to show up and be ready to go and we seemed to have a bunch of guys that weren't shooting the ball very well. Guys hadn't really sorted out how they would go together and a lot of that shit in the old days would have been sorted out among the boys on the court during the summer. We're deep into the season and just now barely starting to see that Mitchell and Graham are the "leaders" more by inheritance rather than earning it.

Good post. It's hard to disagree with any of this. We've never been good on offense under Musselman. He hasn't developed any players since he has been here, mostly due to the fact that if you don't work out right away he just tells you to get lost. The guys on this team who have stayed in the "system" (Pinion, Mitchell, Devo, Graham, Brazile) have stayed the same or gotten worse. It doesn't help that guys who have left like KK Robinson and Darian Ford are having success elsewhere. I still like Muss and want him to stay but he obviously has some deficiencies as a coach.

If we didn't beat Kansas without Bill Self last season after having a losing SEC record with four NBA players on the roster (three if you don't want to put NSJ in there) I wonder what people would be saying right now. Last year was a drastically underperforming team.  Easy to make excuses because of injury and the win over Kansas in the end, but the season itself was shit.  Then this year.  We appear to definitely be trending in a direction that isn't good.

I for one have never actually "liked" Muss's offense.  It's basically just pass the ball around till someone gets a good one-on-one matchup, and then drive.  Take the open shot if that comes up before the driving opportunity.  But he has been successful the last few years, so it is hard to complain.
