Still terribly sad about this.  Was one of my favorite players of what was a tough era.  Seemed smart and likeable, someone with a bright future after sports.

Sucks.
Quote from: Rick B. on Aug 16, 2023, 01:15 PMMan, I am so ultra-aware and tense as fuck when I ride that it's really not relaxing unless I'm out on a stretch of road that's uninhabited.  But then again, with my poker runs and other benefit rides, I have led dozens of rides, some with 150 bikes trailing behind me.  When I lead, I go the speed limit everywhere and am ultra-conservative.  I've been riding since I was 13 which was 1979.  Knock on wood, pray to St. Christopher, and count my lucky stars, I've NEVER been in an accident and only put my bike on it's side ONCE.  This was somewhere around 1982 while throwing my paper route.  It was January and I hit a patch of ice as I was turning left and just slid over.  Scraped up my knee a bit.  Newspapers scattered everywhere.  Many customers got wet newspapers that morning.

I have though had several friends die on bikes.  AND the most traumatic thing I ever saw in grad school while doing my angiography rotation was a big mofo biker who got ran off the road.  He slammed into his handlebars when he hit the embankment and was unconscious. They got him to the ER and he was bleeding internally but they didn't know where.  So they brought him to angio to find where.  Turns out his aorta was slit.  From the pressure of his impacting his handlebars.  He coded.  They cut his chest open, I mean...pulled his full rib cage out to try to fix it quickly....he flatlined and they got the little heart AED paddles and tried to resuscitate him.  didn't work.  He died. I witnessed the whole thing.  I was freaked out for weeks.  I had never seen someone die before.  Not even a grandparent or anything.

Certainly not as bad as what you saw Pinkphil but bad nonetheless.

Right after I left Little Rock the doc that inherited a big chunk of my patients was killed.

Rode a badass Indian bike, beautiful.  Even drove it to work.

Pulled out of the parking lot of Bank of America on Rodney Parham and a lady in an SUV didn't see him, plowed him over and he had no chance. Nice guy, survived his own bout of cancer.  Absolutely horrible story.

Terrifying thing to me about bikes is that you are defenseless and can't control what other people, particularly idiot drivers, do. Most horrible motorcycle accident stories that end in deaths, quadriplegia, etc had nothing to do with the guy on the bike.  Crotch rockets going 100 MPH on I-30 at rush hour excepted, obviously.

Texzilla

I never had the fascination with motorcycles in my youth most of my friends had.  A kid in 7th grade when I was in 8th snuck his father's big Suzuki out and took a curve too fast, hit a curb and flew into tree trunk.  It really tore him up.  A buddy saw it happen and was fucked up for years.

I never wanted a bike but had a 70 442 and it's a miracle I didn't die in that thing.  Back then it seemed like several folks in every school year died in car and motorcycle wrecks whether drag racing, driving drunk, or being stupid.

At least he's young and that's the best time for these things to build back since they're still growing, still tough though.
Splash 11! drop ABE track, too confusing

I'm not a motorcycle guy but I've had many close calls on ATVs...my current four-wheeler I've rolled 4 or 5 times a couple times at decent speed. My front teeth are fucked up because of a 3 wheeler accident when I was little. My legs are scarred from a Honda Trail 90 muffler also from when I was little riding on the back.

I'd say every single fucking time I had an accident as an adult I let my guard down for an instant. I've learned when that happens to hold tight, use my thighs to hug the bike and try to keep my limbs tucked in and just let the machine take the abuse.

All of that shit you can have on top of you in a hurry...a motorcycle is a different animal really because you tend to be dragged on pavement or propelled several feet/yards away and all sorts of bad things can happen. In Jacksonville I can show you a spot in the highway where multiple motorcycle fatalities have occurred over the years and they still do nothing about it.

I can understand the thrill of riding a crotch rocket or whatever. I'm not built for that shit so I'll stick to finding other ways to die.

"I got fired for using free speech" yea imagine getting killed over it

Someone said it earlier, and it's true...the thing that always struck me about him and spoke volumes for the kind of person he was, was the fact that he ALWAYS handed the ball to the ref.  He didn't have to, he didn't need to, it's not required or even expected, but he did.  That's the kind of thing that earns you respect.

I bet he always returned his shopping buggy too.

Got a Suzuki JR 50 with training wheels before I got my first bicycle, lol. 1979 was the year and I was 5. I still have it. My one and only. 3 wheelers and 4 wheelers came after that. Lucky to have lived or not get hurt bad cause I got plenty of cuts, scrapes, bruises and stitches.

Every time I see one of those "Best Cities to live" or "Best places to retire" clickbait lists, I think this should be a metric they use.  I feel like I can get a pretty good idea of how nice a town is by driving through a grocery store or Walmart parking lot.

So sad to hear about this.  He was my nephew's first favorite Hog player.

Poor kid, fortunately kids heal fast.  On the bright side, he's a lock to get an offer from our Basketball recruiting coordinator.

I had a Suzuki 50 probably a year or two after that.  It was yellow.  My brother had the 80.

At 10 years old I flipped a 3 wheeler at full throttle and landed about 20 feet away.  I got up without even a scratch or bruise.  We had been using it to look for a couple of missing cows during calving season - dad in the truck and me on the wheeler.  I was going full speed down a gravel road and he was just a few feet behind, when I cut off the road into the field the front wheel dug in and I got a full-send.  One of those, "I should still be fucked up 30 years later" moments.  Honda ATC110, the "collarbone crusher".  Dang I miss that thing.  Saw one sell on bringatrailer for over $3,000 last year.
"That's embarrassing.  Looks like Josh Duggar the first time his parents asked him to babysit."

For $7 mil I'll put a webcam in front of my shitter so I can answer fan questions while I drop the Longhorns off in College Station.

Once authored a post that critics claimed, "Was notaslibro level."

I've been thinking of buying another 250r.  I've seen them here and there for sale.

I don't understand rolling a four-wheeler or ATV unless you are going way to fast, and then it is on you.
Apparently retarded member of the "fucking old people" crowd as defined by Swahili Steve.
