I can't see Cornrows taking that gig right now

For $7 mil I'll put a webcam in front of my shitter so I can answer fan questions while I drop the Longhorns off in College Station.

Quote from: DrMongoose on Jan 10, 2024, 04:57 PMif you are lanning - why? you have oregon rolling and setting the expectation there and with an expanded playoff you're set in the Big 10.

then there is the whole 9 win seasons will not play well in tuscaloosa and all that crazy shit fan base.
Quote from: TC on Jan 10, 2024, 05:09 PMSame can be said for Kiffin too though.  8-10 wins on avg with half the pressure is a great gig in the SEC.

I agree on both counts. It's a HUGE risk/reward situation. 12-team has changed everything. Probably comes down to a psychological thing. Who has the stones to replace Nick fucking Saban? Just seems like Kiffin is type of guy to say "fuck it, let's do it." Of course, the brass may not want him at all.

Not sure what to make of Lanning just yet. I feel like Jed Fisch (Arizona) is going to attract some jobs in the coming year(s).

The better question we might need to ask is who among these coaches has sniffed a fart from The Bear? Anyone? Nope. That's how Alabama did their coaching searches prior to Saban and will likely do the same with Saban's ex-staffers.

I think conference affiliation (SEC) would be a big incentive for him. Nobody wants to be the guy to follow Saban but enough money makes you forget or not care about certain things.

Easier to see Alabama throw out the big money and try to steal an established coach.

DeBoer currently makes $4.2 million.

Perhaps the most remarkable thing about his tenure at Alabama is he may have actually done it the "right way". Did they need to cheat and pay guys under the table? Saban sure acts all sanctimonious about all this stuff.

All of this NIL and portal business is not worth the fucking effort and I don't blame him for saying fuck this shit. It's damn hard to build a program in this fashion and then have to start completely over every year. Obviously Alabama isn't losing 20+ unexpected transfers like other schools have been known to do but the issue is still the same that you are going to have dudes that you put time and energy into developing bounce out of the program to get a payday. For the kid you can't really blame them.

I think the loose rules with the transfer shit is the real issue. Grad transfers were fine but some of these guys will have played for 4 universities before it's over with. There are basketball players that have played for 4 or 5 schools in college. That's wild. Obviously all these super seniors muddy the waters and that's going to cycle out I reckon soonish.

I won't be shocked if Nick is a senior exec analyst in the nfl for New England within the next 10 months. Unless he truly just wants to walk away...a tv gig may be more his speed.

Can we consolidate this situation to this one thread please?

I think Kiffin is the obvious hire but who knows if the higher ups at Bama want him w/ his controversial personality? Who knows if Kiffin wants to take on the pressure of Alabama, and now he's had the success at Ole Klan and has a top transfer portal/recruiting class coming in that only has to make a 12-team playoff now?

Lanning. Who wants to leave his new slow ass conferences safe-haven. Can parlay any offer into a raise from Nike.

Cornrows. Now here's a perfect patsy. He's in conference limbo and a perfect patsy if he doesn't cut it in the first 2-3 years.

Kirby. Pipe dream. But money talks...and as w/ Saban in 2007, Bama proved they would go to any lengths to get their guy. They can afford $18-20 mill/yr and continue on. It's stupid, and completely changes the game for everyone...but they are Alabama. He's at his alma mater and loves it, but if Bama comes and says "hey, we'll double your contract"...what would you do?

Quote from: jdcatty on Jan 10, 2024, 05:20 PMKind of embarrassing for the Aubies to me.  An acknowledgment they can't beat Saban.

Thankfully we don't have a tree rolling tradition because somebody would be doing it.
Splash 11! drop ABE track, too confusing

I'll offer up some less obvious names

Mike Locksley (Maryland)
-was a Alabama assistant
-seems to be a bit of connective tissue here with Tua's brother going there and I think maybe a couple other guys

Chris Klieman
(K-State)
-kind of fits the profile of hard nosed defensive minded coach

Lance Leipold (Kansas)

Pete Golding (Ole Miss DC, former Bama DC)

I'm real high on Klieman and Leipold if anyone hasn't figured that out or hasn't paid attention. These are two on the wish list whenever Arkansas gets away from Tittboss.

The Albert Means story says otherwise.
Well, shit...

jdcatty

I would surely take Klieman. Leipold has done a great job at Kansas but not as sure about his upside potential.

I think Bama will want a bigger name though.  Lanning might fit.

What about Sarkisian?  Bama could take him away from Texas if he was interested.

I guess Saban got depressed when he found out he would not get a chance to beat Arkansas's ass next year.
