I honestly don't know. My initial response is yes, but I've had so much fun watching the Hogs from February through June for so many years now, that I don't know if I would trade it. Depends on how bad we were and for how long. Being good at something is really fun.

Edit: you said for two years. Yeah, I'd probably trade a Natty for two years assuming we got back to our current form after those two years.

I honestly feel that there's no way, these days, that DVH and staff would have a year or two of ass (MSU was like 9-21 the last 2 years).  Maybe 20-10 or 18-12.

Buddy of mine posed the question to me this way as a 'would you rather': would you rather be perennially great/highly ranked and never win a title, or win an improbable title but be mediocre and/or inconsistent all the time otherwise?

It's basically another way of asking would you rather be Arkansas or Ole Miss in baseball, or Oregon or Auburn in football.

I've said this before college baseball is one of the weirder sports because the 'best' teams don't necessarily win it, and the Supers and CWS are often a crapshoot of teams getting hot at the right time. Case in point — Pat Casey, Tim Corbin, and Mike Bianco have been to the CWS a combined 13 times and have 6 rings between them, while DVH and Mike Martin have a combined 26 CWS appearances and 0 rings.

That's a pretty crazy stat. Had no idea those three coaches had been so few times.

So, what was your choice?

I think you're right. DVH has built a program and a reputation that most likely won't diminish in a short period of time. So, then rephrase the question a bit. If DVH retired after he won a National Championship, would you root for us to win one this year?

Without hesitation. Go ahead and let DVH get his ring and call it a career. He could go play grandpa and enjoy the easy life while knowing he built a legacy that won't soon be matched.

When DVH wins one, he will win another.  I don't think he is likely to sit back and say "I made it!".  I think he will try to get multiple more.

They lost their last 2 to Florida, beat Southeastern,  got swept by us, then lost to Southern. If they die, they die.

Buzz, your girlfriend...WOOF

Don't forget "dropped a series to MSU including getting run ruled on Sunday."

They've lost 8 of their last 12.
