Because he placed bets on his own team, while he was at Indiana. That's an automatic lifetime ban by NCAA rules.

I agree they should be allowed to wager if they aren't betting on the sport in which they compete.

It's hypocritical to police kids betting on sports when the very games they're playing in are sponsored by FanDuel in a stadium with sportsbook signage prominently displayed.  A player dropping a few bucks on an MLB game or MMA event shouldn't be a punishable offense.  The argument is that if they get in gambling debt they are more susceptible to being pressured into point shaving, but wouldn't that be true of any kind of debt - car loans, credit cards, etc?

I believe eventually the pendulum will swing back toward outlawing online betting.  We're going to see some awful stories over the next few years.  For my part, I think if one wants to go to a casino and bet, fine. Being able to bet on an app on one's phone is a bit too seamless.  I also don't think anyone should be able to bet on games involving teams in the state in which they live.  I know a lot will disagree.  The betting app stuff is as wild Wild West as NIL in my view.

Damn, I'm glad we got Mika before the price went up.  I expect regulations on foreign players before long. The BB academies over here are about to get an influx of kids that were going pro over there for basically nothing to big paychecks in college here. But the NCAA is going to have to do something. Pro is pro.

The entire concept of amateurism is in significant question when we're paying 17 year olds 6 million per. Actually it's bat shit laughable at this point. Why not 5 years to play 4, 1 time transfer, no hardships no exceptions, age out at 35, must actually go to class (wink wink). Who gives a shit if the athlete played in pro sports prior to going to college. If you can attend college then why not be eligible to play college sports if they'll have you.

That's NBA money.  More than a lot of second rounders are getting.  I mean Acuff, the 6th overall pick is only getting nine million a year. 

Makes you wonder too how long it will be before states like California start sending tax bills to athletes for games played in their states like they do the pros.  Then, you might have guys sitting out games or bowl games to avoid tax liability.
