Top of the ninth. Hogs up 2-1.

First up grounds out to short. 1 away.

Kurland goes down swinging. 2 away.

Pinch hitter for Florida. Brookins grounds out to second.

HOGS WIN 2-1!

Good to get the win, but our offense really has to stop taking the fucking night off when Hagen is on the mound.

At this point in the season, the offense is what the numbers say they are. They aren't taking the night off. They just aren't good.

We had 3 hits last night.  Our offense isn't great but the numbers say it's better than that.

One thing about this team. We always seems to get that hit when we need it. Other than that, our offense is shit. Diggs has become our automatic out. Wilmsmeyer doesn't do much at the plate, but is great in the field. J SLott made an amazing play last night then followed it up by whiffing on a throw from first, allowing a run to score. What scares me, is that we are doing just enough to get our hopes waaay up. Our pitching is off the charts good. But our bats are nearly non existent.

Last night the announcers made what I hope was a prescient and predictive point. They said homers and runs are all fine and good, but games in Omaha tend to be low scoring and close (implying pitching dominates). So if we get there, we will be right in our element.

Pitching depth is a huge key to winning in Omaha.

Correct. So is scoring points.

Yeah, my fear is our offense let's us down in one of the early games and puts us in a losers bracket. That is if we make it.

I said this in another thread, but I fully expect to face some random ass 4 seed like Grand Canyon in the regional and ultimately be in a 2-1 nail biter in the 7th and have to use Gaeckle because we can't give Hagen any run support worth a shit.

Given the number of games you play in Omaha, you got to make your ace's starts count, especially in game 1, in order to set your pitching up well the ensuing game(s). We just can't seem to do that when Hagen is on the bump, and he's not like we've been facing a lot of Friday night aces. Florida's guy last night was an inconsistent sophomore who's been shelled, LSU held their ace from game 1, and so did Ole Miss.

Either we are recruiting guys that can't hit or our hitting coach isn't very good.

We are very deep at pitcher.  I don't follow as closely as some of y'all, but I'm still seeing us run relief pitchers out, and saying to myself "who's that?", then "damn, why haven't we used him more?".

Basically every game is a pitcher's duel. Our offense makes the opposing pitches look elite and comparable to our own.

And it's been the same story past several years.

Last night's game was a pretty good example of what to expect in Omaha.  Many of the teams will be like Florida loaded with double digit HR guys.  The ballpark up there, much like Baum this weekend due to wind, neutralizes the long ball.  Florida hit 2-3 balls that were homers in a normal park last night.  Those are going to be loud outs in Omaha.

TL/DR:   Our team is set up nearly perfectly for Omaha.  The problem is getting there.
Perish peacefully in a warm environment.

I'd rather see Helfrick than Rowland, but I don't think he and Tygart are on the same page when he's catching. They obviously weren't on the same page during Tygart's outing against Alabama, and then DVH opted for Rowland to catch Tygart against South Carolina.

Generally speaking, the bottom of that lineup (Diggs, Wagner, Rowland, Underwhelmsmeyer) gives me a ton of pause. That's a lot of strikeouts, and those 4 are hitting a combined .186 in SEC play.
