The Lord wants you to put your foot on their balls and believe in it. 'Cuz that's what wins football games. Not jumping offsides like a bunch of wimps and faggots. I don't care what those pinkos over in Russia say. You want to be a loser? You go live in Russia. I'm a winner. I'm an American.

A little of each.  It's not easy hiring a new coach, and declaring that one particular guy would have been the "right" guy, is even more difficult, at least for me.  Not for many others on here.
Apparently retarded member of the "fucking old people" crowd as defined by Swahili Steve.

Both 6-5 overall, 3-4 in conference.

Yet VANDY is the darling of the SEC this year and we're shit on a shingle again?

one beat bama and the other didn't. although beating bama seems to have lost some of it's luster.

We're not firing Sam.  He's been eligible for a bowl 4 out of 5 seasons.

For our football program that's enough to get him extended 2 more years.

If you can't accept who we are, which I sadly have at 51 years old, you should find another hobby or form of entertainment.

Spiderham

Brought back Larry the bowling ball and a mini club dub in the locker room.
Printed and handed out the shirts.

A bowl is about as good as any optimistic fan thought we would do at the beginning of the season.
Not what I eventually want but I'll take it this year.

Would be even better if we can beat Mizzou.
Oak Grove in the house.

Can we stop fucking saying this?

If that 3-7 record from 2020 doesn't count, then that Texas Bowl sure as as shit shouldn't.

Technically we can't.  Because we were eligible and going to the Texas Bowl until TCU pulled out.

Even if we deny that reality we're still not firing him anytime soon.

At least not for 2 more years.  Because that's the program we have and that's all they require.

Sorry man.

Getting 3 wins that year may have been his best accomplishment.

I'm 45 and this is the truth. They should acknowledge that and just focus on basketball and baseball. Keep getting what they pay for in football. They might as well have a gun and ski mask asking fans for even more money.

I'm not a Pittman guy but I don't it's gonna improve anything. We've begged to fire every coach we've had in < 5 years sans Petrino. We fire Pittman and hire some mediocre coach and we are having this same discussion in a couple years. That's why I don't care really one way or the other.

I do think we will likely downgrade coordinators. Fire Pittman and you can close the book on Petrino. I think Petrino is still a great OC if he has talent to work with. Poke fun at Williams but our defense is the nest it's been in years.

I'm with red death. I've come to accept who we are.

This is the spiral we are in. Our idiot AD fought NIL and just got Edge started a couple years ago, which is in and of itself a fireable offense.

Imagine being that shortsighted on the single most important issue in college sports.  I cannot express enough contempt for that sorry mother fucker.

As for the gun and ski mask and getting money out of me they can go fuck right off.  Fuck right off.

Sam works just hard enough to hit the metrics that stupid AD set and that's why the hugs and kisses after we beat Tennessee.  It's indeed amazing what we COULD accomplish if he worked, or another coach who busted his ass.  We literally had players this year before UAB that had no idea about that team during press conferences because we did not prep at all.  Just rolled out there lazily.  That will continue.

So the money will not come in from the fans who have higher aspirations.  So we're stuck and in a horrible self fulfilling prophecy with no way out. And the program will still be 4-8 to 8-4 on a good year, like it has been for most of the last 35 years.

Same.

Hunter can GTFO. He's responsible for this mess, both with the cycle of mediocrity we're currently in as well as our half-hearted to nonexistent commitment to NIL.

An AD has 2 jobs — hire good coaches and raise money. Hunter fails at both of them.

This is exactly where I'm at. Sam isn't the answer but the next guy we get won't be either. Lashlee would suck here, or he'll follow in the footsteps of Gus and go to Auburn and beat us by a bajillion points every year.

I would rather Petrino get more established and see what he can do. I hope he's able to make the decision to move on from Green, though. I know our offensive line is abysmal, but he has regressed as the year has gone on. He is not a good QB, and I can't see him being what we need in year 2 or 3. For every Matt Jones wow play he gives us, he follows it up with Cole Kelly against SDSU.

Quote from: Show-Me Hog on Nov 23, 2024, 08:01 PMEvery coach in his similar situation (Billy Napier anyone until recently? Brian Kelly? Any coach on the hot seat ever) will have similar talk. It's completely unrealistic to tell the fans to "don't talk about this." It's basically like telling them not to breathe.

As often happens, when you go to the source material it's a little different than you thought it was. I listened to the press conference and he wasn't actually criticizing the fans, he was criticizing the media for repeatedly "putting it out there." He was also expressing a boss's concern about "everyone in that building", whether they would keep their jobs or not, having been through it several times as an assistant. That's actually a valid concern.

Not that big a difference, really. When coaches start getting defensive about their jobs, it's never a good look.

The Whyte Boar

It's a valid sounding concern, but pretty hollow.  All those guys except for very lowest level people make enough to miss a paycheck or two.

It all depends on who you hire.  Out of all the people we've hired since Petrino, the only one who wasn't a WTF hire to everyone paying attention was Bielema.  And even Bert was a bad hire due to his style of football which didn't fit the kind of players we can get versus who we play.

Anyone should have been able to see Morris was a bad fit.  And Pitt may have been the best we could get off of 0-16, but he was intended to be a stopgap anyway.

The next guy may be equal to or worse than Pittman.  If so, what have we lost?   You can't go a lot lower than 12th-13th anyway.

That said, he's not going anywhere unless he decides to retire and recover that hip with a negotiated buyout that doesn't require him to seek employment to offset it. We just have to hope for the best and expect something far less I guess.

I'm not one to want Kiffin here but we need a coach that does a lot of what he does.  I can't think of a single thing Sam does that I want in a coach.

Trigger7672

Kiffin would be a huge upgrade over Pittman. It's not even debatable.

So what if Petrino gets a shot to HC another big program with the big $ and leaves? And same for TWill?  What players are portaling out?  Guarantee Sam hasn't given it a single thought.
