The answers to the previous 2 questions are eyes/fan bases/media...basically money. They wanted Cal/Self then the winner to get Pitino. And UNC is always a big draw.

they had 7 quad1 wins, 4 against ranked opponents. also had 5 quad2 wins, against two ranked opponents.

the committee puts a lot of weight into that.

The reason the chairman didn't explain it was because he is the NC AD. Isn't in the room for the discussions. Like that makes a difference.

The AD of North Carolina was the chairman of the selection committee.  He had to leave the room with a wink and a nod as they discussed North Carolina.

These ESPN guys all just went straight seed and all basically had 1 and 2 seeds as elite eight and 1s in Final Four.

I think all but one of them had 1/2 seeds in Elite 8.  I think one maybe had a 3 seed in Elite 8 but don't remember.  All had Fla winning the NC.  It was straight chalk which rarely happens.  I second your eyeroll.
