This was a really good series sweep against a team that doesn't lose many home games. I think we had something like 7 or 8 of our first 10 batters started 0-2. Just think if the Aloy boys had been doing their usual shit.

Quote from: Hognrock on Mar 30, 2025, 03:57 PMWe didn't even use McEntire, Coil and a couple others.  We need to stay healthy on the pitching side.

Coil has pitched really well this year, but McEntire needs to be done. I sincerely appreciate all he has done for the team over the past 14 years, but he just isn't an SEC caliber pitcher at this point.

Barton Fink

Coil is dealing with something. Phil said he wasn't on the roster today.

DVH said in postgame that his back tightened up on him when he was warming up yesterday and they decided not to chance it and parked him.

Also a big Rooney fan. He's always been an advocate of our program.

He picked us to win it all before the season.
The Lord wants you to put your foot on their balls and believe in it. 'Cuz that's what wins football games. Not jumping offsides like a bunch of wimps and faggots. I don't care what those pinkos over in Russia say. You want to be a loser? You go live in Russia. I'm a winner. I'm an American.

The nice thing about this roster is we don't need the Aloy boys to do their usual shit game in and game out.

Dave has done a great job of roster building this year.

The 14 year comment was funny.

Don't agree at all on the SEC pitcher part.   He isn't tops in the league but he is a good SEC pitcher.  He is 17-5 with a lot of starts.   His record would be better if prior teams could have hit their way out of a wet paper sack.

Barton Fink

Most of the time it's location with Mac. If he can keep the ball down and hit the corners, he does fine. When he leaves the ball up is when he has issues.

I hate to sound like I'm dogging the guy, because I like him and he's easy to root for. I hope we can come back to this post in June at point out how terrible my take was.

Overall he has been a good pitcher as your stats show, but right now, he's really struggling and I don't see how DVH can trust him in a tight spot.

He's getting hit hard just about every time he comes in, including the Missouri State game, where 5 runs scored while he was pitching in the 9th inning (3 of them his) and he recorded 0 outs. I know that's one game, but the scouting report is out on him and teams are just sitting on his cutter.

That said, he's very a very consistent pitcher and I'm sure he and Hobbs will figure it out. We will need his arm in June.

I don't think your take is an unreasonable position at all.  He does seem to be struggling to locate picthes as Fink pointed out.  And you can almost count on him giving up a bomb at least once an outing. Nice thing is we have a stable of pitchers so hopefully that allows him time to work through the struggles.

Vito Porkleone

Agree on the broadcast.  Rooney is awesome, and he kissed our asses plenty.

I think you may be misremembering, or maybe giving more weight to previous seasons.

The attached photo is every game log for this year for McEntire.  I marked average lines as light blue, good as green, bad ones as red.  In nine appearances that's six good, two bad, one average.  The two bad were against Michigan in Arlington, and Tuesday against SMS.

As @Barton Fink said above, it's all about whether he's hitting his spots.  Guys like Will who don't have velocity have to be precise with their control or they start throwing batting practice.  If I were DVH and Hobbs I'd watch him closely and have a quick hook.  Walk the first batter or give up hard contact to the first couple and he comes out right away.  And I'd probably avoid using him in a situation where a long ball will tie or win.

Fair enough. There's a good chance I am misremembering. I don't have stats to back up my argument. Mostly just selective memories of him getting hit really hard recently and against mediocre competition. To me, he seems to be struggling.

Son of Spam

We seem to be striking out as much as we are striking out the other team in some games. Vandy struck us out 31 times to our 30.
Well, shit...

BleedinRed

I'll take the strike outs if individually everyone is hitting over .300.

We have guys at .340 and above.

And, we walk quite a bit too.

Agreeance. Just saying we do strike out a lot, too.

The thing about Will is that when he's bad he's fucking terrible.   Hence only one meh performance out of nine.  It's easy to remember a guy getting absolutely destroyed as being worse than he is.
