Hamate fracture is a really bad injury for any athlete whose sport involves gripping...golf, baseball, softball, tennis. Non surgical treatment (basically resting the hand) can take weeks to months and the injury frequently recurs. Surgical recovery is quicker (weeks) but carries the risk of nerve and tendon injury.
