I believe the buyout stuff.  Makes sense.  Now, how it probably happened is that HY and Sam had an agreement in principle, agent gets involved and Sam's like "What agreement, I want my full buyout?"  That kind of shit happens all the time.  It fits.  Sam is essentially a weak man he wouldn't stand up to his agent.

HTL

There was never a scenario where a lower buyout was happening.

vegashog

an agent wouldn't even be involved in that scenario, except to get his cut of the buyout, he has no say.

if pittman wanted to be gone after last season, we would have another coach on the sidelines right now.

Sure he would happens all the time.  People are getting a divorce.  They start talking one day and more or less work it out.  One of them says, "Okay, let me talk to my attorney and get it drawn up"  All of the sudden after talking to his attorney, he is all fired up and there is no deal.  A year later and another $15k in attorney's fees, they settle pretty close to what they talked about and agreed on.

Like I said, happens all the time.

So he's leaving for sure after this season no matter what? I sure af hope so. I guess if no one is available when he finally pulls the trigger we will just have to sit around and have Bobby as our head coach till someone else comes along.
Yep. I'm not trying to be a dick about it. It could have lived. It didn't. Not by my choice. -Elvis

IF we pull the trigger, I hope we immediately turn around and hire Petrino. No fuss, no bullshit, no red ties at Powerhouse. Just hire the man and be done with it.

You've been saying he's going to take a reduced buyout for three years. That theory is still as stupid now as it was then.

Usafhawg

It was going to be a recess appointment buyout.

I am right and this guy confirms it.  He was going to, thus all the rumors last year he was done down to some media sources saying was more or less official, then just like this guy said...nothing.  Makes perfect sense.

Bobby always was a dick to DC's back in the day when they dared interfere with his offense.

This is even more hilarious when you know how adamant they've been they are getting every cent owed.

The Whyte Boar

Stupid greedy people make stupid decisions and stupid greedy people get on message boards saying those decisions make sense.

He could have taken a reduced buyout last year and gone home to the lake with a lot of goodwill from the fanbase remembered as a moderately successful coach and nice guy.

Now, he is going to get another year of pure misery and go down with a losing record after a 3-5 win season with a reduced buyout.  For a guy with no kids and plenty of money already, that was a stupid, greedy decision and a bad trade.

HTL

He'll be fine. People like him here and his close friends will always support. In partnership with a successful business now. No one will care about the losing record. No reduced buyout either.

He'll care.  He is the weak type of person who cares what people think.  And yeah, his buyout will be contractually reduced by the time he is done this year.

But what if he beats somebody and there's a contract extension with a 50 million dollar buyout package. We still have HY as the AD you know.

The only way it would have ever made sense is if we waived the duty to mitigate.  I can see Hunter forcing the issue and making Sam take an OL coach job somewhere to offset what we owed.  If the money was reasonable Sam would have been a fool to turn down the chance to retire with most of the money versus having to go back on the road kissing high school kids asses for some other program.
