The only way it would have ever made sense is if we waived the duty to mitigate.  I can see Hunter forcing the issue and making Sam take an OL coach job somewhere to offset what we owed.

Edit: had to edit the state employee part as it didn't matter. he would be at retirement age at 65 regardless.

sexton represents saban (still), deboer, dabo, kiffin, sark, james franklin, and dan lanning among others. he would get a percentage of any of his client's buyout. but it's sam fucking pittman, who's buyout is less than half of those guys, who he's going to try and juice the contract?

Because he is proving a point.  He is fucking with HY who only hired Pittman because he was sick of Sexton and very publicly said so, if you will remember, only to see Pittman hire Sexton a few years later.  HY was gonna change the way coaching contracts were negotiated, yada ya yada ya.  Now, six years later he is trapped by his own stupid contract and the very agent he publicly railed against.

Even if that isn't what happened, it's the most Arkansas story ever.  And it can't be denied that Sexton has had a hardon for Arkansas since Nutt.  He has fucked us half a dozen times that we know about.

That might be true if we had a close to average D-line but everything I've seen so far is leading me to believe they are baby shit soft.   That'll never work in the SEC.

I haven't seen the actual contract, so I don't know the full details of the duty to mitigate.  If what you say is accurate then it's even further reason why Sam wouldn't budge on the buyout.

As for Bert and Morris, I had no problem with attempting to enforce the clause with them. Especially Bielema, as he was essentially working for free for the Patriots on our dime.

Other stuff too with BMFP and Travis Williams almost getting into it at practice.

I went to a couple spring practices in that 2009-10 run and the abuse was brutal.

This is nothing new.  Petrino used to yell, scream, cuss, and berate his assistants so much, it's no surprise at all that they almost "got into it" at practice.  I used to wonder why anyone would work for him at all.  When he was HC, it seemed like all of the coaches hated each other.
