Quote from: BleedinRed on Sep 16, 2025, 07:59 AMTo be clear, I'm not saying we have the talent to compete for an SEC championship today.  We do have the talent to win 9 games.

Success breeds success.  We may need more NIL dollars, but that ain't why we continue to lose one possession games.
You are out of your tree if you think this team has talent to win 9 games

HY shouldn't blame everything on money I agree BUT it's certainly a major factor

Great coaching can overcome some marginal talent

So we shouldn't be 3-0 right now and then 4-0 after next weekend?  5 more wins is impossible?  Give me a break.

We have a 10-11 win offense and a 3-4 win defense.  Not sure how that averages out.

We'll get back on track.  Memphis doesn't belong on the same field as us.

Who's job is it to get us in a position to compete for championships?

All I know is we should be 4-0 after Saturday.  Notre Dame, A&M, Auburn, MS State, Texas and Missouri are all winnable games.  That gets you to a possible 9 wins with room to lose one of those.  TN and LSU are tough.  But we did beat a very good TN team last year with supposed inferior talent.

NWA is a very affluent area that has grown tremendously.

I'm tired of hearing NIL woes when schools like Ole Miss and Texas Tech, which regionally aren't as wealthy, have established a competitive collective. There was a time it would be shameful either of those institutions would take a prized recruit or active player from us.

It's been an issue for years and apparently there's no progress in solving the problem so, time for someone else to solve it.

And the only hope we can aspire to have a decent season is because of Bobby Petrino, if that isn't obvious by now.

Clearly it's great aunt Mildred, who hasn't ponied up a quarter of her social security check to whatever we're calling our loser NIL program, run by our loser AD, who keeps propping up our loser HC.

NWA is transient with a ton of non-alums. And the Waltons could not care less about UA athletics.

I'm not in the upper crust, but I get the feeling that some big boosters are holding back because they want Sam gone.

If they want Sam gone, they should pony up and send him packing.

It can't be just Sam or Hunter and Sam they don't like. Perhaps they can't give or were told to stay out by the Chancellor or someone else.

Maybe they just don't like football.

Agreed.

People need to at least see a path towards their donations accomplishing something.  With Pittman's track record it would appear that the money they gave would be effectively thrown into a pile and set on fire.

Given that we're likely stuck with Pittman through another 7-6ish season, I wish one or more of our bigger boosters would give him the money to prove them right or wrong one way or the other.

All those folks moving to NWA for work are not Razorbacks fans.  Have no tie to school or program.  Their money goes to TCU or Baylor or they don't give a shit.  Allegiances don't change as you move.

A lot of their kids will be going to Arkansas and they would love a reason to get involved.

Had we not fumbled and went on to score I think we probably still lose it at the end because Arkansas. Sure I'd love to say that we should be 3-0 but we're not. We're a td less better than Ole Miss who looked like poop until they played us.

Normally by your 3rd game especially given that usually by now you are getting into a P5 or conference opponent you are going to dial it up and have your piss hot and all that. We were anything but. Our defense played with the confidence of a preacher's 40 year old virgin son in a whore house. If we played Ole Miss 10 times this season we might win 5 of them strictly because of offense. That's all last game told me.

I don't know if I should be disappointed or impressed but somehow Lane Kiffin seems to get everyone all excited only to flub out toward the end of the season. Somehow Sam's teams tend to surprise in games they shouldn't and disappoint in games they shouldn't. So maybe we get bowl eligible again this season but I wouldn't go expecting anything more that that. Offense is pretty decent but hasn't really played a good defense yet to really see how things are going to be. This offense is good enough to win games in the SEC. The defense and special teams will lose most of them.

For starters, the Arkansas D played much better in the second half and had we scored I feel fairly confident we would have prevented them from getting into field goal range.  Regardless, the game was very much winable and should have been won.

Second, Ole Miss receives praise on this board for how much better they do than Arkansas at the NIL game.  Arkansas is knocked for not having SEC talent because of the lack of NIL.  Yet, you just said that if the two teams play 10 times Arkasnas would win half of them.

Is it your opinion that Ole Miss also does not have SEC talent?  Would you say that Arkansas being on equal footing means that Ole Miss' NIL program sucks too?

Both teams scoring slowed down in the 2nd half. Supposedly our last defense before the fumble we went to a zone scheme for the first time and it shut them down. So it stands to reason that might have played out again. Instead we fumble while driving after Ole Miss had a fake injury where undoubtedly their staff told them to strip it out. They did and then they pick up a couple first downs and it's ballgame. Excellent coaching...vs Meh coaching.

RE: Ole Miss being a better program. Are we under-performing or are they? if you believe our AD we're way behind in NIL. The optics are that they are that much better than us but really I don't know that they are. Head to head we generally are right there with them...with a critical mistake being a major game deciding factor. Spolier alert...that's basically any game especially conference ones. I think they stink holed us last season but you'll have that. It's a true rival game so if anything I guess you could make the argument that regardless of talent we're (to some degree) gonna bring it.

Some would argue you could give Sam....Georgia talent and he'd still find a way to go 8-4 because that's just who he is. I don't think anyone is debating that point. We know Sam is not the brightest tack in the box. He's made mistakes in the past and he's still making mistakes from an instinctive point of view. Like a lot of coaches they are still treating games like it's all about field position and taking points when you feel like they are there to be had. Sam didn't kick that first fg because he was scared to go for it on 4th. He kicked it wanting to show off his kicker's big leg in a game in which fg's probably weren't going to matter *unless you miss a couple two or three. You don't bring a knife to a gun fight. You don't put your freshman kicker on the road for the first time in that situation shattering his confidence. It's those lack of instincts is what will always kill us with Sam Pittman. The guy has zero ability to read the room.
