Quote from: BASS on Sep 28, 2025, 03:15 PMIt was glorious. BMFP was born. As was the original sins of Bobby Petrino thread.
It was nice seeing our helmet on the desk nearly every week on Gameday. However, Bama and LSU were having one of the best seasons ever. And, as usual, we still had to play both of them. Good times.
Well, shit...

Anyone remember the poster that first posted BOBBY MOTHERFUCKING PETRINO!!!!!?

I think it was the guy that had the Michael Irvin gif with the BMFP meme font on it

Quote from: CardHog on Sep 28, 2025, 03:14 PMBP never got much of an opportunity to coach in the NIL era.  We all know he's a tremendous on the field coach so why did he ultimately fail and both Louisville and Mo State?  Recruiting?
Mo State I don't think he was there long enough to really say that he "failed" he was a little lacking on being "good" there. That was right when things in recruiting were changing faster than a lot of small budget teams could keep up. Traditional recruiting went out the window.

At Louisville Part Deux I think he got caught with a horrendous defense and a couple QBs after Jackson that just didn't pan out. There may be more to it than that...I wasn't really paying that close attention by that point. Obviously recruiting was the issue there.

Shit has changed so much in recruiting it's hard to say if Petrino with a really competitive NIL budget could do well but I'd suspect he'd be much better than Titts McGee.

Bobby needs 4 of the last 7.

Auburn and Miss St are the most winnable. The former seems set for a total collapse. The latter is better than we'd like to admit.

After that, there's the usual close game vs LSU, a Texas team with a QB that shouldn't scare anyone, and Mizzou at home.

Tennessee and Aggies are tough this year, but no one in the conference is unbeatable.

If we can get any hint of fire and a modicum of football IQ out of our defense, the mountain is not insurmountable.

Are you still drunk?  While I can see your point with each team... I think the glass bottom clouded your view on our D.  Even Texass will embarrass this D, which means LSU, MSST, TN, MIZZ will all dunk all over 'em.  I'll be impressed if Petrino can even shift the culture a little.  I doubt he can do much else at this point in the season.  If he can shift the culture, that means the kids are buying in, and that will speak volumes to Petrino's ability to coach.

He had like half the roster at Louisville threatening to transfer if he wasn't fired.

No shit. Our defense, or lack thereof, is horrible. We could score 60 points a game and still lose by 14. The rest of our schedule will score on every possession. And they won't even have to run hard to do it.
Well, shit...

and he had a bunch of family members on the staff (and at missouri st., his son is the oc and his son in law is the dc currently) that didn't sit too well with them.

imo, he'll have to convince the powers that be he's willing to go outside his comfort zone in hiring staff.

He wasn't failing at MO State too hard that night when he almost took out a SEC team on their home field with FCS talent.

HOGSRUNWILD

His second stint at UL was marred by his good friend the AD getting shit-canned by the whole basketball fiasco and the athletic department as a whole being in shambles at the time if I remember.  It was a pretty big thing.

So the guy on Tardville who called this exactly on Monday says that if Petrino wins 2 SEC games it's his job.  But he says today that there might be a little bit of hedging on that because option number 2 is much more likely than it looked like...whatever that means.

He also says, and goodness I hope this is true, that the Memphis game pissed off some of the deeeeep pockets and since you can buy a team now, they have decided "Why not us?".  Allegedly the motivation is that they are getting old and tired of waiting.

I know it's Tardville but he claimed this a week ago and all the usual guys who claim to know shit made fun of him.

vegashog

petrino's going to have to win more than two games. doubtful the same number of wins as pittman will get him the job.

for better or worse, lashlee seems to be the front runner. when the national guys start throwing out his name, and jerry's, there's something to it.

Natty_Ice

They don't have any intention of hiring Petrino for the full time job.  HY had to name him as a candidate.  What else is he going to say?  Coach Petrino will be our interim but has no shot at the real thing?  Would that inspire good coaching?

Bobby has to win 4 more (getting us to a bowl) to get the gig, imo. Even then, if they have some "Calipari by way of Tyson" level hire waiting in the wings, that'll be it.

I suppose Bobby could stay as OC if the big hire is a defensive minded guy, which I'm in favor of.

So does this mean we get a few weeks of "Arkansas Football with Bobby Petrino"coach's show?

That should at least be entertaining watching Bobby break down film and watching uncomfortable Chuck Barrett almost piss himself.
Oak Grove in the house.

If it's Lashlee then I'm officially done.  If it's Gus I'm officially done.  If it is anyone with SMU ties I'm done.  Jerry Jones influenced...done.

animal

Does Jerry have any more grand kids that play QB?

*Also this whole rumor about the big wigs being "pissed off" and "ready to do what it takes" LOL. Whatever. I'll believe it when I see it. All we're doing is getting another chicken ready to be served up with a dose of disappoint in 6 years.

I think there is a Lashlee contingent but I don't think the big money is behind him, or at least he isn't the first choice.
