Theres no mystery to it. Bear fucking Bryant wasn't "gotta win 2 games to stay" with that group.

Quote from: animal on Dec 02, 2025, 05:39 PMIn the real world you are correct. In the coaching world maybe not so much. It's not entirely unreasonable or even unheard of for a coach toward the end of their career to take a step back into a lesser role. Hell Bobby has already done it twice. I do agree it's very unlikely he'll be doing it at Arkansas whatever he does. Many ex-head coaches take analyst roles some are paid very well to be "in the room" and give their opinions.

From a scheme perspective I think people are correct in that it takes time & continuity to install a complex system. In Bobby's defense this season the offense wasn't really the issue. We all know if the defense had any pulse at all we win enough to go to a shitty bowl. If we hadn't been rode hard and put up wet by the officials in a couple of games...we probably can add a couple wins. If our idiot QB doesn't go brain dead at some weird times we probably could add a 1 or 2 wins. Bobby's system was far from the problem...but Bobby as a head coach I remain of a mind that he didn't need to be head coach anymore. Maybe it's asking a lot of a coach for taking over a staff assembled by Pittman and somehow making it work on a interim basis. All that game management snafus could have been correctable by how Bobby likes things organized and those things are worked on in the spring and August not mid-season. Just having people in place that know what he's thinking and can anticipate it could have made a huge difference in how things played out.

Nevertheless I won't be shocked if he's in the SEC next season as somebodies OC or QB coach. Does he golf? South Carolina maybe. Nice little golden years gig.

He has a different hobby.

I love BP, but our offense was terrible in the second half of games this year.

There were 6 games where we scored a TD or less in the entire second half, and in a few of those games we were held to a FG or outright blanked.

It's easy to infer that teams were figuring out pretty easily what we were doing and adjusting at halftime.

Granted, a good bit of that is on our braindead QB, but if BP gets credit for the scoring and TDs he also gets blame for us consistently shitting the bed in the second half of games.

You can blame second half woes on Bobby. The numbers are there.

I would blame our second half woes on poor conditioning and physical+mental toughness. Those would result in the same numbers.

As would I.   Had we fired Sam last year and given Bobby the reins, history says we might not have had those problems.

We didn't though, because Hunter is a spineless faggort.  Love Bobby, and will always love and be grateful for what he accomplished here (the best seasons in my 40 years on this earth), but it's time to pour one out for him.

The two times I've really criticized him were sticking with players named Green too long. He played Broderick Green more than Knile Davis and Dennis Johnson. Still don't understand it.

Then I'm sure he'll get a big time job. He had coaching gaffes that were inexcusable every week. Keep sucking that dick though.

I think Bama OC went to ORE st to be head coach. Could see Bobby rocking that gig to twilight his career.

Snorts

Allow a different take. I think our second half woes on O were simple.

BP schemed the opponent, as he can, and we scored TDs even though we were not very good. Whether from lack of effort, talent, or a combination of the two, great planning allowed us to score in spite of ourselves.

Halftime. The D adjusts. No more easy TDs. The quit, lack of talent or effort or all 3 assured an uphill path we couldn't, or wouldn't overcome.

I think Bobby has made enough in his career where he can afford to fuck off into early retirement and be just fine.  But y'all could always setup a gofundme if you are so worried.
Things of that nature

We also had a QB that wilted in the second half. I bet his 1st half vs 2nd half splits are Jekyll and Hyde.

I thought he beat only volleyball players with that.

Doubt that lol. I could see South Carolina but that's a one year stopgap til they fire everyone.

Way to move the goalposts. Blaming Petrino for 0-8 is the most asinine thing you might've ever typed, and that's saying a lot. It's clear you have some weird irrational hatred for him, because you only showed up in game threads when we were down, and disappeared when we were up. There was a running joke about you in the game threads doing that. And every time you showed up, it was to troll on Petrino.

I'm sorta glad he's gone so I don't have to hear you fucking up every game thread with your PDS next year.

You could also point at Green's inability to absorb halftime adjustments and execute them on the field.  Haven't looked yet, but I bet the turnovers, sacks, and missed receivers are much higher in the second half.
