Bottom of the seventh.

Turner grounds out to second. 1 away.

Brumbaugh flies out to center.

Niu singles on a sharp grounder to third. Under review. Looked safe. Ruled safe after review.

Pitching change....RHP in. Turner.

Helfrick grounds out to short.

It really doesn't matter if we get a base runner. It just gives us another chance to strand him.

Hogs lead 1-0 after 7.
Well, shit...

Top of the eighth.

Martinez runs the count full. Walks.

Torres with a sac bunt. 1 away. Runner at second. Pinch runner at second.

Williams (PH) for Edmunson goes down looking. 2 away.

Quiller is intentionally walked. Runners at first and second.

Walton goes down swinging.

Hogs hold onto a 1-0 lead mid 8.
Well, shit...

Bottom of the eighth.

Robinett singles off the second baseman.

Aloy hits into a 6-4-3 DP. Color me shocked. Shitstomped in game one and now 1 run against a team that is picked 9th in their conference.

Pitching change.....Sewell WHP in.

Souza walks. Do we strand him? Stay tuned.....

Pitching change... Van Der Lelie RHP in.

Rutenbar (PH) takes a ball. Souza steals second. Rutenbar intentionally walked.

Pompey takes a wild pitch. Runners move up. Goes down looking.

And we strand 2 RISP. Ho hum. 1-0 after 8.

Well, shit...

Rocky Mountain Hog

We now have enough data to determine what this offense is: it's shit.

Top of the ninth.

Engskov goes down swinging.

Griffis goes down swinging.

Houseworth grounds out to second.

Hogs win 1-0.
Well, shit...

Question for a bigger baseball nerd than me. How does Eaves get credited with the win if we scored in the first inning while DeCremer was the pitcher?

Son of Spam

I hate to say it this early, but there is nothing about this team that excites me. I don't have much hope this year.
Well, shit...

Barton Fink

Didn't watch the game but I assume he pitched in the 5th. Whoever is pitching after 5 with the lead gets credited with the W.

I believe a starter has to go five innings to get credit for the win. If the starter doesn't go five, whoever relieves him (with the lead) gets the win (I think).

This may just be a MLB thing but if the starter doesn't go 5 and there's not another pitcher who would get the W under normal rules (being the last pitcher of record before your team takes the lead), I believe the scorekeeper chooses the W pitcher as to who was most effective. Or something like that.

This series should send fear through the rest of our opponents.

I watched the last four innings or so.  Man, we need some bats to wake up.

Things of that nature

The replacements for Davalan, Aloy Sr, Iredale and even JT have been a huge step down so far. Losing Root and Wood in addition to those guys, and best case scenario, this is a rebuilding year. I just hope it's not the beginning of the end for DVH.

Good (and depressing) way to put it.

- We traded Aloy for a green freshman who's barely hitting .100 and probably shouldn't see the field again this year.
- We traded Chuck D. for a carousel of replacement level players.
- We traded Iredale (who was a good glove at 3B and a power hitter) for a guy who's under the Mendoza Line and completely lost at the plate.
- Our CF is a strikeout machine
- Souza is still the same player he's always been.
- Gaeckle has always been better out of the pen and now he's our Friday starter.
- our Saturday starter has gotten shelled

It makes last year even more difficult in hindsight. Teams like that don't come around very often. They had no weaknesses ... except for LSU.
