The issue isn't where, the issue is when. The rule should be if you play in a conference final on Sat, you play on Thur; if you played on Sun, you play on Fri. That's fair. Making a team that played on Sun play again on Thurs, PLUS have to travel over 1,000 miles isn't right no matter who is doing it.

yall acting like it will take all day to get to Portland. Don't they just fly direct on their plane or do they fly commercial?
Yep. I'm not trying to be a dick about it. It could have lived. It didn't. Not by my choice. -Elvis

they fly charter, and will leave tomorrow morning. travel will probably affect the coaches more than the players.

it's sec that insists on having the championship game on sunday, and it's why cal hates playing in it. the ncca doesn't have to change their seeding formula because the conference won't start the thing a day earlier.

Without getting overly into it I'd suspect there is a math problem to be worked out in order to do what you are advocating.

There are 68 spots, 31 automatic bids leaving 37 at-large bids. Selection Sunday had 5 auto bids yesterday punch their ticket and issued 3 of them for Thursday games. The seeding is what is going to really matter here. If we were say the #1 overall #4 seed maybe they would have given us a Friday game. IDK how that works but probably works something like that.

Barring common sense and understanding that there are four #4 seeds and I'm going to hazard 2 of them play on Thursday and 2 of them on Friday. I get it...Kansas lost on the 13th and will be fresh as a daisy come Friday. Would it have been a big deal to ship them assholes to Portland and us to San Diego? Probably not. Does anyone give a fuck up there? No

The main issue is the tv deals and our conference. We should be ending our tournament on a Friday. That would do two things. A. Make the SECT more competitive incentivizing competitive play by having a longer rest for the final teams competing. B. Gives the Selection committee ample opportunity to figure out how to fuck Arkansas. Hell by Sunday the committee might not even agree Arkansas is a state.

That kind of rational thinking will destroy a sports message board.

The NCAA dictates  travel. hotel, practice time, media, etc. We have to be there by a certain day/time to fulfill this things.

Quote from: Sus-Scrofa on Mar 15, 2026, 08:12 PMGo watch the announcement video with the team.

They say Portland and several people clap.  But watch Acuff.  He glances over to Cal as if they talked about it and knew something like this was gonna happen.

Saw that and sent it to my son and asked him what he thought Acuff's reaction meant, and we both saw what you saw. Cal must've told the team or Acuff, intamately, that the disrespect was coming.

are we the only team in this predicament? Do other teams get to practice more?

On another note does Bama fall to Hofstra now that their main guy is arrested and not playing?

You people?! lol, but the 3 days is after 3 games in three days. Yeah, the travel probably isn't a problem for the team, but certainly prohibits many fans from going.

peter schrager has arkansas over duke in the title game.  so do i.

oh you can't travel to Portland oh no! Why? How is any harder to travel to Portland than somewhere else? You can leave LR at 6am and be in Portland by 10am. Plus they are the hours behind so you gain time

Once you get to the sites, the NCAA dictates practice times. But before you get there, you can do what you want. That is why the extra day was a big deal. That is why Bama, losing early, playing on Friday, gets more practice time.

Luckily Hawaii looks to be a fairly easy team to prepare for.  They don't do too much that is complex or anything like that and their defense of never switching and always going under screens and meeting the ball handler on the other side will kill them if Acuff and Thomas are on their games.  Acuff might get a dozen layups.

Also Billy. Also DJ does a lot of straight line drives to the basket. Basically anyone who handles for us can beat their man to the basket.

SwahiliSteve

I was hoping we would maybe play high point and they beat Wisconsin but Nola winter and Jack janicki have returned to practice and are set to play which means we could be in for some tough games after Hawaii

Did you sleep the day St. Peters or whoever the fuck it was that beat Cal's Kentucky team a few years back? Anybody can beat anybody in this tournament. However with the maturation of NIL I anticipate more chalk because the major programs will have adjusted and they've got the talent and the age. Where as in the past it would have been talent but not necessarily age and maturity for the "moment". The impact of mid-majors in this tournament may ultimately be negated by having to go against teams full of semi-pro's and future NBA players.

The biggest change is paid players and age.

I just hope we beat the shit out of someone.  These close games are rough.

The last three minutes of the Vandy game were great.  Not just because we won the tourney, but because it had been a while since we just stepped on the neck of a good team to end the game.

Yeah, the close games kill me. They could go either way and usually not ours. This year has been different. But still cardiac Hogs.
Well, shit...
