I didn't like 12 and hate 24. It will be incredibly watered down as evidenced by the fact the CFP didn't get the windfall from Disney(or anyone else) that they anticipated by going to 24. They wanted to open the contract negotiation window to open it up to other bids but no one else wanted it. Sounds great in theory but no one gives a fuck about Iowa at TCU in round one on a Tuesday...and I'm one of the degenerates who will be wagering on that garbage.

The byes are what I really don't like. They should've just made it 16 so everyone has to win the same number of games. Make the games toward the end of the season still mean something by rewarding the top 8 with home games in the first round, not byes. Then play the remaining games at the traditional playoff sites.

This is an excellent point that actually changed my mind.

I liked the +1 championship game on top of the bowls for the best two teams.

I like less, but could live with, 4-team or 8-team "playoffs."

But 8 team playoffs -- or 12, like last year -- are killing the bowls. Good players won't play in them. Whole teams (Notre Dame) won't play in them. They have become JV scrimmages.

So now we have a choice. 11 meaningful games (12 team playoff) plus some meaningless bowls of freshman and 9th year seniors who finally get to play, OR

23 meaningful games (eliminating 23 teams), plus a dwindling number of those meaningless bowls.

All in all I guess Door #2 is preferable.
